I went back in March and had their famous and delicious shrimp and grits. I went today and was served the dish saturated in oil... and grease no lemon butter sauce. I took one bite and did not taste the same. When I returned it I was told I had to pay for it.Then I ordered a side salad instead and the server brought a salad with rotten tomatoes. That is not dressing on the tomatoslice, it is slime and was mushy and smelled spoiled before I put the dressing. Did not eat anything. I was punished forreturning it and got served rotten food. The third picture was the grits from back in March which were great. I no longercomplained because I was surrounded by colleagues and embarrassed. This is a health hazard Neches River Wheelhouse! Wow amazing experience. I didn't get my waitresses name but she took care of us very well. My drink was never empty and she was... constantly checking on us! The location of this place is really great as well overlooking the Neches River allowing you to watchboats go by. Great atmosphere and I bet it is really fun on the weekends at the bar! I can't wait to come back and try othermenu items. We ordered the Seafood Nachos to start and they were absolutely on point! I had the Wheelhouse Club with onionrings, my wife had the Shrimp and Grits and our son had the corn dogs with fries. Everything was delicious and left me wishing Ihad a bigger stomach to try more of their menu items. Great food and fun atmosphere. We brought my mother-in-law for her first time to visit. The food is alway good and it has good... portion sizes. Every time we spilt a dinner there they put it on 2 different plates for us and make it look nice. That's such anice touch. Read more
Nothing like it in the area. Great location, right on the Neches river. The Wheelhouse serves up consistently tasty food with... an extensive menu, and friendly, attentive service. Went on a Thursday evening. No wait. Service was good. Everyone in our group had a good time, kids had a place to go run around... when they were tired of sitting. Might could have used a bigger table for 7 and a high chair but we made it work. I want to saycompared to a year ago the food has changed. Not in a good way. Our blackened reddish and catfish was very dry and overcooked. The dirty rice was also dry and overcooked. The green beans were good. I was supposed to get a sauce on top of my catfish thatincluded crawfish and shrimp, but I did not see any crayfish meat and it was like they had a can of those little shrimp and justtossed a few on. Not happy with the food this time. But the fried cheese and fried pickles were good. I can't wait till itgets a little cooler to set out there and just relax. We paid around $220 for 7 of us. Oh, and they do have a baby changingstation in the bathroom, most places don't anymore..thank GOODNESS they did. Read more
