My arrival at J. Alexander was met as expected in an establishment like this with a receptive host who was quick to seat me. My... server arrived quickly and answered all the questions I had about the menu as if they'd written it themselves and cooked all thefood on it. I ordered the French dip with fries and an additional side of their Smash potatoes with a gin and tonic to drink.Upon its arrival I was met with a wonderful looking French dip, crispy fries, and the Smash potatoes (mashed potatoes). I firsttried the fries, they were crispy and well seasoned with the addition of their ketchup I could not have asked for anythingbetter. The French dip was tender and the sauerkraut was not too powerful and the entree only fell short with the Au jus. The Aujus tasted more of turkey than I usually prefer. The Smash potatoes were a disappointment even as mashed potatoes are concerned,they seemed to lack any and all flavor and even being Smash potatoes they had an abundance of potato chunks left behind. I didmy best to season the potatoes at my table but the salt and pepper provided did little to reduce the craving for buttery richpotatoes. My gin and tonic was by far the biggest surprise to me it had a rather healthy pour of gin and was not the watereddown drinks I am used to. At the end of my meal I was given a verbal menu of their desserts all of which sounded delicious, Iwas saddened though when I was told the seasonal dessert was rather large and intended for multiple people and due to the frozennature of part of it it would not travel well. In all I enjoyed J Alexanders however I am left wondering if I would return. Thestaff were fantastic and the setting was perfect for conversation to happen without a need for loudness but I'm not sure if thatcan compensate for the lackluster potatoes and desserts intended for many people. This place was so great. We loved our steaks and everything was amazing. Cocktails and dessert were also very satisfying, if... you're not sure the chocolate bundt cake looked great and we shared the carrot cake which was beyond our expectations. Amazingservice and atmosphere. Read more
The food was amazing!!! Everything was great I don't have one single complaint. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful as was... the rest of the staff. The place was very calm and not too chaotic. Fantastic higher-end dining! Food, service, and atmosphere were all great. Great for anniversaries, dates, etc. I personally... experienced the specialty Swordfish, Prime rib, mashed potatoes, and the Carrot cake with a scoop of ice cream added, all werefabulous. All of the staff were courteous and our waitress was very helpful with food/drink recommendations. Personally, this isthe nicest restaurant I have ever been to. Read more
