Menu for Holiday Acres Resort on Lake Thompson in Rhinelander, WI

Unfortunately, our stay wasn't the greatest. I think many of the things that I am about to say would have been looked at... differently if our unit was clean. For us, that is the most important thing and at almost $300 per night (includes pet fee), weexpect that. We saw some pretty disgusting things. Staff reacted quickly and offered to clean the room, we really just wanted toleave but stayed and made the best of it. Positives - staff is really nice and apologetic. There are some amenities that duringthe summer months would make this a neat place. Unfortunately, many of these had ended 1-2 weeks prior to our stay. I guess weshould have expected that. There is a beach and a nice lake. In the office, there is equipment to use in the provided boats aswell. The view outside our unit was nice. Negatives - our room had green stuff splattered down the side of the fridge, firstthing I saw. There was long black hair in several places. The dirty dust pan was on top of the refrigerator - gross. There weremouse droppings or dirt in the kitchen drawers and in the drying rack that was under the sink. That night, my husband pulledback the blanket and saw several more pieces of long black hair and dirt on the sheets that could have been scraped off (notstains). There was also hair in the fridge. Our 5 yo was running around barefoot in the cottage and his feet were BLACK. Youcould see the dirt on the floors and our dog was crawling under the beds and pulling out stale kids snacks like goldfish. Oursame kid was doing head stands into the couch, and was coming up with dog hair on his head. The last day, my husband found along white hair. There were cobwebs in the kitchen and bugs on the fireplace mantle. Several spiders were found in my husband'stennis shoes on the final morning. These things would probably have been ok, but need some attention. The pool was extremelycold and the adjacent changing room needs a lot of work. Our room was filthy and outdated. There was old water in the coffee maker. The mattress has likely not been changed since the... building was built. Over a four day stay, we did not see a single staff member. The only question asked upon check-out waswhether we needed a receipt. We stopped in the lounge on Saturday night and the bartender was too busy complaining about makingice cream drinks to serve us. The good: property and staff were great. The bad: rooms very outdated, dirty with old smoke smell and heavily stained furniture.... Coffee maker had old moldy water, shower moldy and not clean. No housekeeping service for a 5 day stay. This is definitely nota 3 star hotel. Read more

Excellent dining with unique items, made in house, and well done. Mushroom tart appetizer was savory, saltimbocca excellent, and... tirimisu and lemon desserts were worth indulging. Look forward to returning. Read more
