Very fun place. I love how great restaurants are situated in middle of residential neighborhoods in Richmond. Approaching to and... finding them always give me a great excitement. L'Opossum's heavily decorated interior seemed to be used as a bar since whileback. On its red-painted brick walls, over dark-red floor, many fun, overwhelming numbers of colorful artworks welcomed us.After seating, we kept looking around each one of those; I realized that we didn't pay attention to their menu until our servercame to us twice to take our orders. On their menu, names and descriptions of their dish were also fun. Their selection wasconcise and easy to formulate our orders, but I would say it covered most different preferences. For cocktail, I ordered "TheJock Snifter": Vodka with guava jelly, grapefruit, and aquavit(I didn't realize what the name implied until my wife mentioned, but ordering was one of fun aspects here). The cocktail glass was just fun and suited well with the scene, and of course, it wasreally delicious. Then, we ordered foie gras stuffed quail, seasonal vegetables with lentils, and faberge egg bèdazzled. Alllooked also fun, but surprisingly with abundant portions. Faberge egg bèdazzled was easy on our eyes. Then, I loved my quailwith wild rice, which I don't remember enjoying that much before. However, I might pick the seasonal vegetable dish as myfavorite from our night, though unfortunately, photos didn't come out great. The dish came with large boiled cabbage as main, which worked well with the lentil base with its very satisfying texture. It was full of vegetables with different taste palettesworked together. Do come here, it's such a unique gem at the edge of Richmond. Read more

Amazing experience at the L'Opossum. The menu is so creative and unique! I enjoyed the baked oysters straight from heaven and... the chicken dish with crawfish creole dressing was mind blowing. My server Shauna was so knowledgeable. I told her what mytaste was and she matched it perfectly. Amazing experience! Bringing my wife next time on our Anny! Read more

If I could give it 6 stars I would. This place deserves all the recognition and praise it gets. Being from out of town, the... location was a bit surprising at first, as it is not located in a part of town like Carytown, but in a residential neighborhood. However, once you enter the restaurant you forget all about that and are transported to a place that is eclectic, unpretentious, and fun. As we walked in, were immediately seated by the hostess and our waitress was waiting for us with some delicioussparkling rose to celebrate our anniversary. All the food is just marvelous, modern French cuisine at its best. You can't gowrong with any item in the menu and our waitress made sure we understood what each dish had and how it was presented so we couldmake informed decisions. We loved every single dish and drink we ordered: the soup of the day, carpaccio venison, fillet mignon, quail, chocolate volcano, and the creme brulee, plus the pisco and spicy margarita. During our meal, everyone working the shiftthat got in contact with us wished us a happy anniversary and seemed to be doing everything they could to make our experienceeven more memorable. We had the most amazing time in this incredible restaurant and cannot wait to come back in the near future. We will make sure to recommend to everyone we know. Thank you for an unforgettable evening. I’ve been 3 times. My first 2 visits get a 6/5 for service and food. My last visit was good on food, underwhelming on service.... Overall, I’d say this is some of the best (and most beautiful) food in Richmond. The ambience is fantastic. Absolutely unlikeanything else in Richmond. I don’t really eat meat, but I did have a small bite of the beef swellington, and it’s beenreferred to by more than one of my carnivorous companions as “the best cut of beef in the city”. Cocktails are fun andinteresting. I mean… a jockstrap on a cocktail glass? Yes. Wine list is comprehensive. Mint-infused water actually tastes likemint. Fabulous. I had the cabbage dish without the cheese on my last visit, and though it was very salty, it’s no small taskto make a vegan dish taste like a gourmet dish. The split pea and crab soup I had (pictured) was unreal - a different flavor inliterally every bite. Deviled eggs are prettier than they are tasty, but they’re pretty enough to make up for that. I’veeaten at a few Michelin star restaurants in the US and Europe, and this goes toe to toe. It’s hard to get in, so if you can, take a later ressie. I felt super rushed by my server on this last visit. All we could get was 5pm. I hadn’t seen my companionin 2 years and we were very efficient about ordering, and spent about $250 on one app, 2 mains and drinks. It’s not reallyokay to drop dessert menus by while people are still eating, and to look at your watch while refilling wine glasses, at arestaurant of this caliber. Maybe she was just new. Sensing her anxiety, I had her cash us out and asked to move to the sofa tofinish our wine. After that, the whole tone of the service shifted completely. There was a lovely gentleman who came andrefilled our water, even though we said we’d be out of their hair soon and it was unnecessary. It didn’t feel great to paythat much for dinner and feel like we were being rushed, when I would’ve been fine with “just want to make you aware thenext reservation Read more

I’ve been waiting years to try this place and it did not disappoint. Everything deserves five stars-the ambiance, the service,... the drinks, and the menu. We had one of the best servers I’ve ever had; she was attentive but not overbearing, incrediblyknowledgeable about every dish (including the specials), and went above and beyond in every way. We arrived 15 minutes beforeour reservation and were offered drinks while we sat on the couch. I had an adult version of a Yoo-Hoo and my husband hadL’Opossum’s twist on an Old Fashioned. Once seated, a server brought us house-made bread and whipped butter. That butterhad a texture unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. I do wish it was salted but the texture made up for it. We started withtwo apps: the escargot and a chilled, seasonal soup with grilled corn, lump crab, and a cilantro oil. The escargot might be bebest I’ve ever had. The soup was quite nice for a summer evening. It was light enough to pair well with the escargot, whichwas quite a bit richer due to the butter and garlic sauce, but heavy enough that it was filling. For the main course, I had thespecial, which was a pan fried Hake (white, flaky, mild fish) served on a bed of spring vegetables and mushrooms, and finishedtable-side with a chilled green pea purée. If I remember correctly, the peas are grown on-site. My husband had the lamb shankserved with an orange-cranberry relish, broccolini, and spaetzle. One of the more impressive things about L’Opossum is theportions. Rarely do you find a restaurant with such unique plates and high quality food that also provides huge portions. I hadto save some of my app just to leave room for my entree, and I still ended up bringing home some of my app and my entree. Theserver even sent me home with an extra piece of homemade bread to go with my leftovers and placed my chilled soup in the fridgewhile I ate my entree. Sadly, we didn’t order any dessert because we were just too full. Lastly, the ambience is so Read more
