The Costa Verde Shopping Center, as we once knew it, is gone forever. Fenced off with vision blocking chain link fencing, all... businesses except for the last two (Chevron car wash & McDonald's) are closed, victims of the pandemic and/or Amazon closingless profitable locations (Bristol Farms). No more other restaurants or local small businesses remain. According to the UnionTribune, a 178k SQ FT retail center, 400k SQ FT of office space and a 200 room hotel will be built on the site with a projectedopening in late 2023. Read more

Before you go, take note. The parking is a mess. There is all sorts of construction taking place. I was there on October 11th... and who knows how long things are going to be turned upside down there. I visited the McDonald's at the south end of theshopping center because I wanted something quick and easy. Boy was I wrong. There was only 1 cashier taking orders and only 1person ahead of me so I didn't see the need to "skip the line" as the new kiosks strewn about the front of the restaurant toldme to do. The lady in front of me literally took 10 minutes to order because she wanted a Big Mac for $1 deal. Meanwhile, abevy of food delivery drivers flooded the place clamoring for their orders. The order takers are now distracted by these guysand completely forget about the people who have been waiting in line. I conceded to the kiosk as I was becoming increasinglyfrustrated with the woman ahead of me. I am tech savvy and let me tell you, the UX on the kiosk is not user friendly. I neverworked in fast food but now I have a new empathy and appreciation for those poor souls who do. My order was finally input and Iexpected it would be delivered to me promptly. Nope. I waited 10 more minutes (no exaggeration because I checked the time stampon my receipt) while the delivery drivers continued their procession into the restaurant and continually pestered theemployees. I was fed up at this point and was going to cancel my order but I took the kinder, softer approach and calmly askedthe manager where my order was. After some searching, she finally found it. The food was as expected. I mean c'mon, it'sMcDonald's. But $15.48 for a large 10 nugget combo and 2 little hamburgers is kinda steep. No wonder that woman in front of mewas so persistent in getting her Big Mac for a dollar! I recommend you avoid the shopping if you want to dine in.
