The other reviews are spot on. I was craving some no nonsense, straight to the point good eatin’. Meat and potatoes. Germans... do that pretty well. Our usual haunts are Old Heidelberg or Checkers Old Munchen with their trusty German fare and excellentdecor. Last night, the food Gods nudged us towards this joint. While we were pulling up into the plaza we were slightlydisappointed and upon entering the restaurant, we were slightly skeptical and began doubting some of the good reviews we readbecause it’s not much by way of a restaurant setting. It’s a few tables thrown together in a rather bland, minimallydecorated room but boy, we were in for a surprise. The chef and the hostess both are extremely pleasant and friendly. We werepersonally greeted by both, albeit because it was slow on a Sunday evening. Ordered the Bitburger - excellent asalways. Apps: 1. The goulash soup was a show stopper. It was an amazing precursor to good things to come. 2. 2 sausageplatter - terrific! 3. Potato pancakes - on point. 4. Bread plate - excellent. The roast pork, sausage and schnitzel maincourse. Absolutely outstanding. The sauerkraut and red cabbage - some of the best I’ve had. The Apple strudel and thedrunken cherry with ice cream was above and beyond and sealed the deal completely. The key take away points were this - thefood - each and every dish tasted like home cooking. Authentic, absolutely fresh and very very tasty. Sorry old Heidelberg andcheckers - this is the new bar to beat. I don’t say this too often but thank you chef! You truly put your heart and soul intothe food and I could taste it in every bite. Fantastic food! We had the goulash and potato pancakes to start and were already hooked. Even the bread was amazing! We had the... Snitchzelhaus platter that had a little bit of everything, this was a perfect choice. We ended with the apple strudel andweren't disappointed. Not only was the food fabulous, the atmosphere was unique and inviting. Muffin and Rene are wonderful! Can't wait to go back! Read more

What a great find! Don't judge this place by it's no-frills interior and hole-in-the-wall location. Chef Rene in the kitchen is... preparing some seriously good eats. Classic German-Austrian Cuisine was exactly what I was expecting. Fresh baked bread wascomplimentary and delicious. Comes with their house whipped butter, which has an interesting flavor profile to it, with somecheese and spices blended in. I started with the Escargots, served in a hot crock with plentiful minced garlic and abutter-stock broth. Would have been even better with some crostinis, but another slice of the fresh bread was sufficient. Theescargot was cooked perfectly and tasted great. Ice cold Acqua Panna mineral spring water from Italy (my favorite) was a perfectpalate cleanser before the main dish arrived. RUN don't walk to try Rene's Schnitzel!! Pounded in house, hand battered andbreaded, and lightly fried to perfection - this was the fluffiest and most moist schnitzel I have ever had! I went with theSchnitzel Holstein, sans gravy, served with a fried egg on top. Personally, I would have enjoyed two eggs, and maybe even gravyon the side, but I'll ask for that next time. Frankly, I could have downed two of these bad boys, as the portion size isrelatively modest (not small, but definitely not large), but I was thoroughly satisfied. The waiter suggested that I try theApple Strudel, and I obliged. The strudel was a disappointing finish to an otherwise good meal. Limp pastry, skimpy apples, served with a spray of canned whipped cream, and a drizzle of flavor-contradicting Hershey's chocolate syrup. Next time I'll gowithout and simply savor the flavor of the Schnitzel instead. All in all, a great West side spot for excellent Schnitzel, andthis foodie will certainly be back! Read more

I don't usually write reviews but I had to share the most delicious German food we had at Rene's Schnitzelhaus. We were looking... for a good German restaurant and the reviews for this restaurant were excellent and thought we should give it a try. So happywe did! Everything we ordered was fabulous. Our table ordered the goulash soup, chicken schnitzel, pork cordon bleu, andsausage platter, everything was absolutely delicious. Can't wait to go back to try something else on the menu. Read more
