We came here on a Friday night and had a great experience despite being seated 30 minutes after our reserved time. We ordered... an assortment of appetizers that included the Brussel sprouts, lobster mac & cheese, the risotto balls, the calamari and thesashimi blue tuna tartar. 717 South is delish!!! Their pork chop dinner is my favorite cooked perfect. The cabbage with the bacon and cream what can I say... I’d go there just for that. The garlic bok choy was not to impressive. However I’m get to try the salmon dish with it in itmaybe that will be different with the other flavors involved. The cornbread is also a must try as well as the beet salad suchflavors and textures. It can get quite loud in there at times, I try to request a table in the back because it’s hard to talksometimes. I prefer to book my reservations online just to be sure as it’s in south tampa, and I’ve seen it pretty busy.They also hold events. Personally I wouldn’t offer a special event geared directly at the bar which is literally between thewalking space of the bar and kitchen. Makes it difficult to get walk through to get seated. Good parking never had issues evenon a Friday night. The bad….. actually can’t say anything bad the staff has always been friendly service is good. I had oneissue one night with an under cooked dish. The pork chop of course. Mind you that’s why I go there what can I say creature ofhabit. Between trying to get my server and having it fixed took some time but it was corrected. Unfortunately everyone me and myhubby were on a date, and I wasn’t going to let his food get cold waiting for me. They fired a whole new chop so it took time.I believe the head server possibly came over to help because they could see the awkwardness of me just sitting there. Theyoffered free dessert which we were trying to decline not because we didn’t want to but because we were on a diet. We had ourwedding coming up…. Great spot for everyday dining! They have a great, big bar to sit at and comfortable seating in the main room. Cocktails are... fantastic. I recommend the SOHO Socialite. The food at 717 South is average for the area. Mushroom risottos with scallops wasdelicious and a very large portion. The Macadamia Nut Chicken is slightly dry. Overall, great place to go and it is not toobusy. The renovations were much needed. Read more
This place had a nice ambiance and interesting menu which is what drew me in. We were celebrating our engagement from the night... before and wanted to try a local cute spot for brunch before heading home from our vacation. We arrived when they opened at10:30 for our 10:45 reservation and were pleasantly surprised that we were sat when we arrived! The host wished uscongratulations on the engagement since we had put that in our reservation. The staff is really polite. That is where the reviewsort of ends in the positivity. None of the food tastes fresh. The bacon wrapped jalapeño appetizer with the side of tequilawas fun to order but you can tell that when the cheese inside is not melted properly that it’s been reheated. My boyfriend hadthe biscuits and gravy which came out cold. He refused to send it back and then three bites in he got an extremely hardened bitof something (he thinks a bone) and we picked it out but he was less than thrilled by that point. I ordered the apple piestuffed French toast and it too tasted like it was from a can and heated up in the microwave. While the food LOOKS good we wereunable to find the quality ingredients we expect at places with this type of menu. To be honest I hardly ever leave negativereviews but if a place serves me fresh coffee then not much will ever bother me. Not even an occasional bone! Considering wewere one of the first tables to be seated and our coffee was OLD this place was not my best choice on where to celebrate aspecial meal.
