Wheel Barrel is one of the best restaurants in Topeka. The vibe, both inside and outside, is relaxing and cozy while still being... upbeat. The sandwiches are original and always delicious. The beer selection is decent with seasonal beers on tap and optionalbeer flights. It?s my go-to restaurant to take friends and family visiting Topeka. Read more
Good pretzel and sandwiches. Our party enjoyed cocktails as well. Disappointed that the "homemade chips" we're just a small bag... of Kettle brand plain chips. Overall, the restaurant was also a bit dirty. The bench seat looked like it had not been wiped downall day and we had to do it ourselves. Service was fine. My family stopped for lunch in North Topeka for lunch on May 13, 2022 on the way to a nephew's graduation in Salina, Kansas. We... discovered The Wheel Barrel by chance. We didn't know we were in a for a great treat! We were starving. The restaurant was fullinside, but luckily they had additional seating outside in the back of the restaurant, with a large awning for shade against thehot mid-May sun. The menu was interesting and looked exotic, with every item containing cheese in it. You could order a full ora half sandwich. And you could pair a sandwich item with a soup or salad. I ordered a half sandwich containing blue cheese androast beef and a small house salad. All the sandwiches came toasted. I like that a lot. I like sandwiches on toasted bread. Theblue cheese had melted onto the roast beef, and it was delicious! The salad was ordinary, but it was good to have a "vegetable"with my meat and bread lunch. I was thoroughly pleased. Took my in-laws to a great local joint here in the heart of Topeka. The weather was nice so we sat out on the large patio area.... The food was fantastic as always. They have a smaller kitchen and the wait time was reasonable for our group size. Thesandwiches are basically gourmet versions of a grilled cheese. They have a lot of great combinations of cheeses and ingredients.You can customize to your liking. They serve regular drinks, beer, and cocktails. Great place to go hang out while out shoppingdowntown or NOTO art district. My in-laws from New Jersey were impressed with our little city.
