The food was AMAZING. You basically have your choice of two dinners with all the fixings, but they're set out on the table. The... day I went, they were serving fried chicken, boiled cabbage, Mac and cheese, potato salad, and buttermilk biscuits and bakedham, black-eyed peas, collard greens, green beans and corn pone. Sweet tea and ice water to drink. Banana pudding(!!!!!) fordessert. The fried chicken was crispy and flavorful throughout. All the sides were well cooked and flavorful. And, oh mygoodness, that banana pudding. I've never tasted the like, and my Aunt makes a pretty great one. Even the sweet tea wasperfectly sweetened. The setting may not be for everyone, but I enjoyed it. There's only about 4 long trestle style tables, soyou're sitting with a bunch of strangers. Went to Owen's Boarding House SPECIFICALLY for their homemade banana pudding with meringue topping, only to find out that... marshmallows were mixed in. It seems like they might have run out of meringue and thought that small marshmallows wouldsubstitute. Marshmallows are too sweet and not an appropriate topping for banana pudding.
