Great old pub, very rustic and old fashioned decor, but in a good way! I had fish and chips, as an Ex Brit I struggle to find... good fish and chips in the USA, the fish was excellent, the chips were more like fries, they were good, but it would have beperfect with hand cut home made chips/fries. Would recommend and go again if in the area. Read more

Historic feel with a nice brook running through the back of the property. Very relaxing visit, while sitting on the deck for... lunch and a cocktail. My friend enjoyed her burger and my crab cake was delish- lots of crab! The inside is very colonial andlooked inviting; the back deck was our choice on a beautiful day. Read more

My girlfriend and I were on a day-trip in the area and had flagged GW Tavern as a possible stop for lunch -- we were not... disappointed. The atmosphere and service were great and the staff is aware of COVID protocols and is following them. Our drinkorders were taken right away as was our order. My girlfriend really loved the salmon burger, remarking how much it actually'tasted like salmon' while so many times she has ordered them in other places and they just don't taste right. I had thelobster roll sandwich, which was OK - a bit more mayo than I like with my lobster, but not bad. The amount of lobster was niceand the roll was a lovely, buttered brioche - probably the best part for me. I liked the fries that came with my sandwich -girlfriend thought they were overcooked, but I like them a little crispier. The salad that accompanied the salmon burger was anice, tasty little side. Terrific dinner - four of us, last minute, under awning. Beef tips and peach cobbler with extra scoop of ice cream!

Coming here was a last second Valentine?s Day decision. I called earlier in the day, luckily they had a reservation spot. This... had been on our list of places to try for a few months. We didn?t want to drive too far because of work in the morning. This isonly 15 minutes from my house and very convenient to get to. From New Milford, just take 109. After a nice drive, we arrived.Parking lot was a little narrow, but plenty of spots. Nice views of the river from the back of the restaurant or outside. There?s an outside dining area for spring and summer. The inside has a bar area in the main room. Large stone fireplace right inthe middle. Unfortunately, they did not seat me in this room. I had to go to the back where it was a little chillier. Lots ofthe core of George Washington. The waitress and busboy were very nice and helpful. Constantly checked on us to make sureeverything was OK. Not a huge menu, but choices for everyone. They have a huge wine and beer list. There?s also a dessert andchildren?s menu. Not one complaint about the food. Started off with honey shrimp with GW cocktail sauce as an appetizer. Shrimpwas full of flavor, loved the cocktail sauce. I got the meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Very delicious. It was a mixture of porkand beef. Not sure what the sauce on top exactly was, but it tasted like it was mixed with some type of wine. My fiancé got acheeseburger. She offered me a small piece which I obviously took. Juicy and delicious. The cheddar cheese was a perfectcomplement to the burger. For dessert we have the triple chocolate mouse. I didn?t have much, but the three different kind ofchocolate were very tasty. Overall a good experience. Would like to return in the spring or summer to sit outside. Read more

Had a GREAT time there Thursday, Dec 16. Particularly Kim and Tiffany who made our day! Food was terrific - blackened chicken... sandwich and the chicken pot pie. I never eat oysters, but GW's fried oysters are great! Been there many evenings -outstanding! Read more

A historic restaurant that is still serving great food. We had the oysters for starters and was pleased with the taste. Our... party ordered a range of main courses and all were satisfied. Mine was the Maryland Crab cakes. The dip was perfect. Read more

Had a girls weekend in CT. I made reservations. It was very humid out so we opted to sit inside. We sat in the dining room... (not tavern) as it was lighter. We had fried calamari app which was light and crisp with a nice little spice dipping sauce. Ihad the steak tips with mashed potatoes and summer veggies mostly squash. My friends had the bone in pork chop with sweet potatofries/cold slaw and crab cakes over mescaline lettuce. We all agreed the meal was excellent. The meat tender , everythingfresh. Service was great. The only thing (and I can?t even say negative) was once the dining room filled up it got very hotinside. We asked for the ceiling fans to be turned up and were kindly obliged. Highly recommend. The drive alone through thescenic CT countryside is worth it in daylight. Plan to return in the fall. Read more
