Terrific dinner - four of us, last minute, under awning. Beef tips and peach cobbler with extra scoop of ice cream!
Very disappointed. Bern thete many times before always a pretty good meal. We went a few days ago and the entire meal was disgusting. Uneatable. Iced tea tasted like dish water. Clean the hose ! Won't be back
Coming here was a last second Valentine?s Day decision. I called earlier in the day, luckily they had a reservation spot. This had been on our list of places to try for a few months. We didn?t want to drive too far because of work in the morning. This is only 15 minutes from my house and very convenient to get to. From New Milford, just take 109. After a nice drive, we arrived. Parking lot was a little narrow, but plenty of spots. Nice views of the river from the back of the restaurant or outside. There?s an outside dining area for spring and summer. The inside has a bar area in the main room. Large stone fireplace right in the middle. Unfortunately, they did not seat me in this room. I had to go to the back where it was a little chillier. Lots of the core of George Washington. The waitress and busboy were very nice and helpful. Constantly checked on us to make sure everything was OK. Not a huge menu, but choices for everyone. They have a huge wine and beer list. There?s also a dessert and children?s menu. Not one complaint about the food. Started off with honey shrimp with GW cocktail sauce as an appetizer. Shrimp was full of flavor, loved the cocktail sauce. I got the meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Very delicious. It was a mixture of pork and beef. Not sure what the sauce on top exactly was, but it tasted like it was mixed with some type of wine. My fiancé got a cheeseburger. She offered me a small piece which I obviously took. Juicy and delicious. The cheddar cheese was a perfect complement to the burger. For dessert we have the triple chocolate mouse. I didn?t have much, but the three different kind of chocolate were very tasty. Overall a good experience. Would like to return in the spring or summer to sit outside.
Had a GREAT time there Thursday, Dec 16. Particularly Kim and Tiffany who made our day! Food was terrific - blackened chicken sandwich and the chicken pot pie. I never eat oysters, but GW's fried oysters are great! Been there many evenings - outstanding!
G.W tavern is a cool place to visit, The food is very good and the atmosphere is like being back in the 1800's 1st time there definitely going back.
A historic restaurant that is still serving great food. We had the oysters for starters and was pleased with the taste. Our party ordered a range of main courses and all were satisfied. Mine was the Maryland Crab cakes. The dip was perfect.
Had a girls weekend in CT. I made reservations. It was very humid out so we opted to sit inside. We sat in the dining room (not tavern) as it was lighter. We had fried calamari app which was light and crisp with a nice little spice dipping sauce. I had the steak tips with mashed potatoes and summer veggies mostly squash. My friends had the bone in pork chop with sweet potato fries/cold slaw and crab cakes over mescaline lettuce. We all agreed the meal was excellent. The meat tender , everything fresh. Service was great. The only thing (and I can?t even say negative) was once the dining room filled up it got very hot inside. We asked for the ceiling fans to be turned up and were kindly obliged. Highly recommend. The drive alone through the scenic CT countryside is worth it in daylight. Plan to return in the fall.
Great food and atmosphere! The Veranda and the back decks are lovely for dining outside in the summer and the grounds are beautiful!
