Three friends and I went to The Lantern Diner on 11/6/2022 after being insulted by the hostess at the Waterzooi Brasserie &... Oyster Bar in Garden City and leaving without ordering. We had quite the pleasant surprise at The Lantern Diner. We wereenthusiastically greeted and seated and a very spacious table (All four of us are on the large side). We were immediately askedwhat we would like to drink, and those drinks got to the table super fast. Our lovely waitress took our orders and got ourdelicious food to us in a more than reasonable amount of time. Between the excellent food and being treated like we werelong-lost relatives, we left full and happy. I highly recommend this place! Read more

Used to be a great diner. Not anymore!! First couple of times we went in the past year, we were disappointed, but thought OK... they are struggling out of the pandemic. We’ll try them in the fall. This past week friends went there for lunch about12:30. We were happy to see several booths were occupied. I Ordered eggs Benedict. When it arrived with no asparagus, Iasked about it, both the waiter and the hostess looked at me like I had two heads and said, we don’t ever have asparagus .” Eggs Benedict is poached eggs on an English muffin with Canadian bacon topped with asparagus and Hollandaise sauce. Whatwould you do with the terrible fake hollandaise sauce; which thankfully was served on the side, Awful. Did they expect someoneto put it directly on the poorly poached eggs??? The bacon was old and cold. I was Charged $6.00 extra for the home friesthat were listed as included with the order…so $21.00. My friend ordered pancakes, listed at $9.00. She was charged anextra $6.00 for the sausage which seemed to this teacher when she read the menu, to be included.with the pancakes. We askedseveral times for butter for the pancakes. The clearers kept telling us we had to wait for the waiter. After waiting 20minutes he finally arrived returning with one tiny cup of whipped something…certainly not butter. Even though we ordered fromthe breakfast menu, Coffee $4.00 extra So $44.00+change for breakfast. Yes we left a tip…the change from $50; considerablyless than our usual 20%. Except from the first person who took our order, but then disappeared, Service was unfriendly andlacking. The food and service are as shabby as their faded out awnings… Read more
