Cheesesteak review here..I've been a cheesesteak connoisseur since learning to walk almost 40 years ago. From the roll, to the... meat, to the cheese, onions/no onions, sauce, ketchup, mayo/no mayo, sub/hoagie/wedgie, I've had just about every combinationfrom Texas to Jersey, from Alberta Canada to Southern California. So needless to say i know a bit about cheesesteaks. Yesterdayi just so happened to find myself in Reading Pa attending a concert at the Santander arena with my wife. While my wife wasexcited for the concert, i was more excited to find myself very close to the much talked about Tony's of West Reading. I easilyordered online last night for a 11:45 pickup today. Pickup was easy in the call window, order was ready and didn't wait oneminute past my pickup time. We received 2 passyunk primes, one seeded roll wit and one non seeded wit out. Rolls were fresh,cheese creamy and lots of flavor, steak couldn't of been better cooked and seasoned. So good i felt bad to even park thesesandwiches on cheap paper plates????. My best friend told me about this place and I finally got to try the cheesesteak today. I left my phone in the car and ate my... lunch at one of their sidewalk tables so I'm unable to show you this gorgeous sandwich. I ordered online and was so excited toget an early pick up time slot, I forgot to order fries - that's okay, the sandwich was so massive, I'm sure I would have beentoo stuffed if I had fries also. Attention to detail: the fried onions were not overcooked, plenty of tooth adding texture tothe chew. As a Jersey boy, I would have preferred a crustier roll. Hands down one of the best places I've ever eaten. As a chef I have quite discerning taste. I googled best cheese steak near me... and I was introduced to Tony's. When I walked up to place my order it was actually Tony. Impressive. I ordered the prime witheverything, fries and cheese cake. First of all these are not store bought fries. These potatoes must have been grown with theintention of becoming this seasoned crunchy delicacy. Then Tony's wife had the nerve to make a scratch cheesecake and let metell you I know she was singing and smiling when she baked it because it literally tastes better than sunshine feels. Those 2barely made it out of the parking lot. Now this cheesesteak..... There are barely words. I know I bit it because I vaguelyremember chewing, but I'm convinced it melted in my mouth. Something about that sweet/hot pepper mix and those crunchy onionsmade my mouth very happy. I initially thought it should have been cut, but after devouring 75% I was glad it was presentedwhole. The whole time eating this sandwich I kept saying if I lived in Reading I would be so sick of this place. Coming from NYCI can say I never had anything close to this deliciousness in that place. 5 hours later Im still full. I was here awhile ago and got the italian roast pork. It was good but didn't compare to my favorite spot in Philly. Not... knocking Tony's at all. BUT, I just ordered the The Passayunk Prime about an hour ago. Picked it up, brought it back to myoffice, and hammered down on it. It was still hot and not soggy at all. Hands down one of the best cheesesteaks I've had. Beyond impressed with it...this thing was packed full of meat!! Do yourself a favor and get the passayunk prime!! It'sslammin! Read more
