The interior, like the menu, is dated. The food was nothing to write home about, the prices are on the high side for what you... get. It felt like I was eating in a kitchen. There are much better dining options in Durham than The Lakeside Grill, at muchmore reasonable prices. Read more
I don't usually write reviews. We were here a few days ago and found the food tasty and enjoyable, but there was room for... improvement. We enjoyed the crab cakes, but unfortunately the calamari was not great. We didn't complain,we were just going topay and move on, however the waitress came by and asked how we found the calamari?, note: she had an attitude the moment shecame to introduce herself as our waitress. We answered "it was alright, we didn't really like it, we enjoyed the crab cakes, butnot so much the Calamari. She looked confused at first, then looked toward the kitchen and said "she'll let them know in thekitchen" and then grabbed the plate and left. Someone else brought our mains out to us and she came by to offer pepper, neverhaving mentioned anything about the calamari again. Had she not asked, we would have just moved on, however once you asked, onewould think the restaurant would "fix" it, offer something else or comp that dish, because we literally ate a few bites andcouldn't shake the oil taste so we left it. I've also read where the chef has gone out and greeted patrons and ensured they weresatisfied. I'm sure time is a factor in that, but we definitely didn't feel our money or presence was appreciated or welcomed.Disappointed. Read more
Quaint little place in Whitby. Some staff are very kind and pleasant (short Filipino woman was a gem) while other staff made you... feel as though they didn't want to serve us. The food was really good, hats off to the chef, food not pricey, pretty reasonable,drinks were also reasonable. Great reviews led us to the restaurant, but we weren't sure how welcoming of diversity some of thefloor staff were based on the attitude shown toward us. Hopefully they were just having a bad day. We stopped here on our drive between Toronto and Kingston. The waitress was delightful, the atmosphere was cozy and relaxed with... a hint of elegance and the food was simply delicious. I?m very picky and don?t often feel as completely satisfied with thebalance of vegetables and protein in restaurant meals, but this food hit all the highlights for me - flavorful, perfectlyseasoned, portions that are generous but don?t leave you feeling over fed, amazing selection on the menu (it was hard to chooseand I know I?ll just have to go back for the other delights that were offered) and they allowed me to skip the starch (rice orpotato) in favor of more veggies. And the veggies were beautifully prepared, fresh and perfectly cooked. I can?t wait to goback! Read more
