The first room we had was dirty and the heater didn?t work so they moved us to another. Same issues. We slept with our coats on.... Dinner was no better. The bartender was the only one working it seemed. Our waitress was present twice, once for our order theother to bring food. I had to go to the bar to get drinks. Left as early as we could. My mother and I stayed here years ago and had a phenomenal experience and time. Fast forward to last week, my parents came to... visit since I recently moved to the area. Knowing we live so close to a place that my mom and I got to share memories at before,we thought we would take a trip down memory lane by booking a room there again. They?ve since changed ownership and it?s sad tosee such a beautiful and unique experience go downhill. Upon trying to book, my mom called to get a room and was told she wouldhave to call back later. Since they were traveling, I called to book for her. I asked questions about the rooms. Requested aroom with a balcony so she could sit on the porch in the rocking chairs - was told that they would indeed be put in a room withthat specification. That didn?t happen. I asked if the room would have a bathtub since the online website said ?some rooms mayhave a bathtub? - the lady on the phone had no idea? she asked a coworker who also did not know what accommodations the roomhad. Despite being shocked by the lack of knowledge for the property the staff had - we went ahead and booked. We made dinnerreservations on Friday night and we were so excited to take my dad and husband to the restaurant we loved years ago? only to bemet with subpar drinks and mediocre food. The saving grace for our dining experience was our sweet waitress, April. She did aphenomenal job taking care of us and made my mom feel so special. Her service alone, would have offset the rest of theexperience. The icing on the cake? I gave them a card to book the room and explicitly stated that this is not the card thatwill be charged because my mom will provide her card upon checking in. I was assured multiple times that they would not chargethe card I had provided. My mom gave them her card the minute she got there. Don't forget to use H?????o???.??m when booking any place. This site will compare hundreds of booking web sites and typically... will have rooms much cheaper compared to others! Thank me later on! This hotel is one of my favorites in the area. I have beenstaying here for a long time. If you choose this place you for sure won't regret it. We came and met friends who were stayinghere for dinner. Wonderful and accommodating staff. Everything was delicious from cocktails to dessert. Shrimp Creole andBlackened red fish was out of this world. Amazing ambience, defiantly would love to go back. Stayed here Sept 2022. Beautiful large estate. We took the tour, and the gentleman that showed us around really took his time... and was a wealth of information. Enjoyed his tour very much! The grounds were in nice shape. With the exception of the poolarea. Water didn't look crystal clear, leaves around. Apparel there used to be a hot tub, but it had been removed, with anold cover and some junk remaining. Not very appealing area. We stayed in a cottage which was clean, just a musty smell asthey apparently were closed almost 2 years with covid! There was only decaf coffee in the room (does anyone drink that?). Hadto go back to desk and someone got us some coffee The staff at front desk was okay, but really didn't provide a map of grounds, or give any information. We had reservations at the restaurant. The food was good, but we struggled for almost 2 hours to getit, as our waitress was mia most of the time, and couldn't do more than one thing at a time. Our 5th grade girls couldseriously wait tables much better. Not sure why she was put in that position. The other waitress was hustling, and peoplethat came in after us had their meal, and were long gone before our waitress even took our entree order! Have been going out toeat for decades, and this was the poorest service ever received! I think we were initially her only table! Anyway, the placeis beautiful, but could use more tlc. Looks like whoever is managing it needs some help. I'm glad we went and were able to seeit, but don't see a reason to return. Read more

I really love Nottoway and the facility. I enjoy visiting and have done so a few times over a number of years. I just stayed at... the facility after thier Covid re-opening. It was a mix of good and bad. Let's start with the good. The facility itself is ingood condition and doesn't need anything huge. I was happy to see that the landscaping and grounds keeping, for the most part,was being maintained well. The main house was giving limited tours, but during our stay all the rooms that were not for rentwere opened and we roamed around the house without restriction and at our leisure. So that was neat. The guest rooms wereclean, but were looking tired in some areas. On the negative side, the AC units in the main house had many issues. Some areasof the main house had non functioning AC units. Luckily, most of the main spaces had enough AC functioning that the bleed overcould keep the broken areas under 80 deg. Additionally, the mini split unit in our guest room was a first generation Mitsubishiand was very old. The fan motor made a very annoying noise, and we had to turn it off to sleep. We would wake up in the middleof the night, run it some more and then turn it back off to sleep. Also, through out the whole facility, lights were out inmany of the rooms and outside in the walk ways. Lastly, there were doors in modern buildings, such as the main reception thatneed to be replaced as there were not closing correctly. So to sum it up, alot of the modern amenities were needing help, butthe main house basics are being maintained. We will visit again, though we may look at other options until Nottoway can getsome things fixed up. If we go again and things are better or worse, we will update the review. Read more
