This place is on point! We got the shrimp tacos and they were the absolute best ever. Their batter recipe is perfect. I can?t... wait to go back and try a fish and chips basket. The young guys working were super friendly and helpful. Even though it?s acounter service kind of place they came and checked in on us to make sure we liked our food and beer selection. I ordered 4 cod baskets today for myself and coworkes. Upon getting back to work we found that each basket only contained one... piece of fish, a handful of warm fries and no coleslaw. Our past experiences and the menu states two pieces of fish andcoleslaw. We decided to give them another chance after our previous time also being sub par. The last time the quality andquantity of fish had decreased from our previous visits. Originally when we ordered the cod basket it contained two largepieces of fish, lots of chips and and coleslaw. Was excited to try this place, and I really wanted to like it, but it just wasn't very good. You definitely get a large portion... of food for the price, but the quality isn't great. My partner got the cod and I got flounder (I think), but there was barelyany difference in taste between the two white fish. All you could taste was the thick, flavorless, heavy batter, which was cakedon and formed a hard shell around the meat. Fries were nothing special (a lot of them were burnt). Coleslaw was very mayo-heavy.Nothing really stood out or made me want to come back. Edit: since a ton of the reviews compare these to fish and chips theyhad in the UK, I would like to add that these were NOTHING like any fish and chips I had in the UK, I only *wish* I could find aplace like that on the peninsula. I really love The Chipper and recommend most of their food, with a few exceptions. We have had their shrimp tacos multiple times... on Taco Tuesday (great deal) and get the shrimp grilled. Love these tacos. I have gotten the codwich and cod basket (fish andchips). Their fries are not my favorite, but if you ask for them extra fried (double fried, extra crispy), it helps theirtexture. But it's also hard for fries to travel well. I think the cod has been amazing each time I've had it. I've seen reviewscomplaining of no flavor, but I think maybe those people are used to dressed-up fish. Not sure. The fish tastes fresh and cleanand the batter is generously applied without being greasy. Even getting it to go, it's been delicious each time. I love it onits own, and as the Codwich it is also amazing and filling. The onion rings are great. Fried pickles, fine. I don't recommendthe crab cake. Got it as a standalone to try it (my husband is obsessed with crab cakes) and we weren't impressed. Not bad, justmeh. Military discount on Mondays. Other daily discounts.
