When it comes to Thai food, I love it all. But Krua Thai in Abilene is one of those places that truly stands out above the... rest. The owner is the cook and she loves to serve great food. She even makes annual trips back to her home village inThailand to bring back herbs and spices grown by her family. She uses these spices in her restaurant cooking and they do make adifference. This is one of the things that set this Thai place apart. The one thing you should know is that Tita (the owner)does not dull down her cooking to accommodate the sensitive Texas palate. She ranks her spicy level an a scale of 1 to 4, withfour being the SURFACE OF THE SUN! As a lover of hot peppers, I can say I have never eaten at another Thai restaurant that caneven come close to the heat level in Krua Thai's level four. I usually get a level three and it is right at the border of what Iwould say is the point at which pepper heat turns form delicious spice to delicious pain. That is the perfect level for me. Iknow some people that love the level four, but most normal people stop at level two. One of the key questions to ask the cookis, "What village di the peppers she is using that day come from, her mothers village or hers. The peppers from he mother'svillage are much hotter than the peppers grown in her own village. My favorites here are her curry chicken fried rice and herbeef noodle soup. Level 3, of course! (5 maybe) she adds enough coconut flavoring to the food that it brings the spice down that she orders special fromThailand her home country. If you're in a hurry. I suggest you get there early enough like 11 30 to get a table it's hard to getseating. This restaurant is high in demand and don't show up without your entire party because you will not get a table untileveryone is there but don't panic people are courteous enough to eat and leave so that everyone can sit.
