Flounder was cooked perfectly and deviled crab was packed with flavor. I had the broiled scallops which were cooked perfectly.... Best hush puppies I've ever had!. Service was super friendly. Read more

Service was fantastic! Food however was not so much. I found their fried fish dry and bland. Had 1 plate if all you can eat... Whitefish that I gave to hubby to eat. Hubby's broiled scallops were excellent. Read more

I tried this place for my first time. Actually I could smell the kitchen cooking smells outside and it was appetizing. I had... the small portion of Alaskan whitefish with fries and white coleslaw. The food was good. This place is the Albemarle locationof Jay's Seafood. It has a similar atmosphere and clientele. It's a cash only place. Read more

Not a big fan of the cornmeal breading. The flounder was full of bones and it, as well as the oysters, was tasteless. The 2... stars is for the nice server and the hushpuppies. Read more

Jay's Downtowner is located in Albemarle, NC just off NC Hwy 24/27. If you like fried seafood this is your place. I appreciate... the fact that this business is successful and has been for many, many years, but it's not my kind of dining establishment. Jay'shas a great customer base and they will be open for many years to come. Tonight the shrimp was greasy, but the catfish waswonderful. Skip the ribeye as it is marinated and extremely salty and the toughest piece of steak I have ever attempted to eat.Skip the cole slaw and opt for an iceberg salad or the red slaw. Baked potatoes were scorching hot and tasty - of course thehushpuppies were delicious. The service was great and accurate! This place has really neat historical pictures and memorabiliaadorning the walls. Stop in and check out Jay's Downtowner...you may enjoy what they have on the menu. Enjoy! Read more

The food was great! The staff was very friendly! I tried the whitefish plate and I'm glad I didn't get the all you can eat... because even on the small plate it was enough to bring home. The hush puppies are also very good. Read more
