My wife asked a dear family friend where to get the best tamales in Albuquerque. She was told by far La Mexicana. She picked up... six red chili pork tamales Tuesday afternoon. These tamales were the worst tamales we have ever had. The masa was greasy. Themasa was very thick with maybe a teaspoon of of shredded meat and little to no red chili. Our family friend still insists thatLa Mexicana has the best tamales and insisted we try them again and she would buy them for us. We will try one more time andhopefully the tamales are as good as my friend insists they are. Read more

Nice people. If you see pictures of the menu on here, know that these are no longer accurate (food is no longer being served,... just a few to-go items like tamales). The tamales cost about $2.72 each. Read more

Very Disappointing. I?ve been following La Mexicana to all of their previous locations since before I had kids and I?m 62. I... read on Facebook they were having staff problems and closing the indoor dining until after the holidays. So of course I had togo there. I bought a half dozen tamales yesterday. My first one was a red sauce with very little meat and the second one hadchopped not shredded pork and no Chile. I warmed another 2 today and they were all masa with very little meat. See pictures. Ihope this gets resolved and they get a handle on their standards and quality of food. Read more

You can tell this is a place that locals love. They were very busy today (lunch time on a Friday near downtown) so there was a... longer wait for the food than I expected. However, everyone was talking and enjoying themselves and catching up on neighborhoodgossip. The food was delicious when it did come, and had very generous portions! Indoor and outdoor seating. Good food, HUGE portions. My meal was big enough for 2! Friendly staff, descent price for what you get. One of those quaint... little "hole in the wall" hidden gems! Will be going back again. Read more

IG: The Rideshare Foodie First visit here and I enjoyed every moment of it. Family owned by Marco and Margy. Its very welcome... and has that at home feel. When you arrive expect to receive an authentic taste of the southwest. Order the combination plateand ask for christmas style (red and green chile) Thank me later lol This will give you a taste of the favorites like burrito, tamale, your taco and sides. The tortillas are all made here fresh. There's also area to purchase tortillas, tortilla chips, sauces from locals, green and red chile etc. to bring back home with you. Bottom line, this place is all that and more. I highlyrecommend this as a definite go to when you visit. Read more
