The meals themselves are really good - we had the saucy sandwhich which was BBQ pork, and the a sampler platter with chicken,... ribs and a really flavorful sausage. It's always a good place to eat with so many choices to pick from. The place is very large, so wait times aren't too bad.
A very good restaurant and the quality of food is good in general, too. However, had a couple of not-so-good experiences when we... went. A vegetarian friend ordered a veg burger, for which they served a non-veg one. Also, we ordered a dish of pork ribs forwhich two rib stacks were served. One of them was juicy but other one was dry. Excellent decor. Big place great for families! Fast service, food cane out quick. Menu is mostly Americana with plenty of... Hickory Park custom made meats, BBQ Sauces and even desserts. Huge menu options for ice cream and even a nickel and dime candyspot for the kids. Only drawback was menu entrees did not have a lot of sides they could be chosen but buying just the entreedidn't necessitate typical sides with the meal. More a ala carte in this respect. Read more
I got a smoked meat platter and it was delicious ???? I would recommend this place and I'm kind of sad I didn't go earlier... because it was worth it. It's all old country styling inside that is reminiscent of a lodge. Really nice ambiance and great foodand desserts. Read more
The fried cheese curds here are absolutely insane. Don't get me wrong, the other BBQ stuff here is also amazing, but the former... just goes above and beyond. They say the freshest cheese curds squeak when you eat them, and they definitely do here. Bigrestaurant and undoubtedly one of the most popular in Ames, with good reason. If I could give this experience a solid 3.5 I would. Service was kind of slow for what I have been used to from Hickory Park.... Our server went home sick apparently and it was kind of behind from there. The reason we knew this is because we were told thisby our new server. Tell the customer they had to go home or something else would be my suggestion. ???? Food was what I havecome to expect. The smoked chicken is really good and I recommend the white meat. The ribs were tasty as well and I even enjoythem cold or warmed up the day after. The turkery and beef were just ok. The sausage is huge and pretty good. Their sides don'tseem homemade still, but are still tasty. If you save room, their ice cream is awesome. When I was a kid we would go here justfor ice cream sometimes, that's how good it is. Read more
