Sorry Village Inn ~~ This place sucks ~~ I used to go weekly to the ones in Cedar Rapids & Coralville...!! But this 1 NEVER will... I EVER walk back into. I had Chicken & rice pilaf ~~ the chicken was so DRY I had to use a STEAK KNIFE to cut it. My boyfriend's Chicken Fried Steak was from a package or processed meat. Not fresh. The mashed potatoes were grainy like from the daybefore & the white gravy was Breakfast SAUSAGE gravy not white dinner pepper gravy..!!! SIMPLE food ordered / served here. Butcan't even be cooked like someone cares how it goes out or how it is received..!! My side salad though amazing in mixed greens.!Koodles. Was so tiny finished in 5 bites with 95% of dressing provided left over.! & the salad was placed in front of the personwho's meal it DIDN'T come with when brought to the table. Nice waitressing. The left over dressing was definitely used to drenchthe DRY chicken & provide a LITTLE flavor. I wish I had taken pictures..!! We were there around 6pm still rather a dinner timebut the place was very empty. NOW, I understand why..!! Village Inn used to be a great family American Restaurant... .... Thisplace should be ashamed of what it is doing to the business' reputation & killing a great place. & I normally do not leavereviews like this ..... but ... This was just too disappointing not to post. Read more

The person at the front looked like they forced him to be there and never smiled once if you don't like you job don't work there... then we sat for 15 min at our booth waiting for anyone to even acknowledge that we where even there. Then servers comes over andtell us that she would be right with us. 15 mind later she takes our order and drink order another 10 mini before we get drinksas she drops them off without out saying a word. 25mins later get our food and drops off check this store should reconsider theemployee that they hire everyone in the store seems to hate their job even the manager did not smile not an environmental that Iwould come back to Read more

Simply said, the place has slipped in food quality. There was a time the Turkey-bacon club was hard to beat.....just a memory... now. The wait-staff were friendly and took care of us very well. Atmosphere could use some updating. I hope things are just"off" due to the times and there is room to improve in the future. Read more

Long wait and high price for stomach problems. My fiance and I came in for a late breakfast on a Monday morning, there were only... four other tables, but it still took over half an hour before even water was brought out to us, we didn't get our food fornearly an hour after ordering. I ordered a skillet, the chicken was rubbery and scalding like it was fresh from the microwave, the diced potatoes were cold and undercooked, the two slices of cheese slapped on top were unmelted enough we could make out theseams left by their wrapping, and the salsa was tomato flavored water poured on top. The staff seemed stressed and busy, wedidn't want to cause a fuss and were having a good day so I ate my side of pancakes and about a third of my skillet beforefeeling I'd made my best effort, then we paid and left to run errands. I started to feel unwell almost immediately and threw upat Target before heading home for a night and following day of burning the gastrointestinal candle at both ends. I decided tocontact village inn Wednesday, and was told the GM/owner was unavailable, I got ahold of him today. The "gentleman" I spoke toon the phone, who claimed to be the GM and owner, was rude and unapologetic, he interrupted me frequently and asked me why wedidn't say anything at the time, informing me he's "never had any complaints about the skillets." I was offered no apology orsympathy and was called a liar. Highest priced and worst breakfast experience in Ames. Read more

Went with my daughter after having an out patient procedure done and was pretty hungry and even more thirsty. The food was not... very good and items that we wanted were either out or forgotten. Had eaten almost all the food when finally got water refillswhich we finish our first one before the food was brought out. They didn't have much in the option of pies. It had been a whilesince I had gone to this restaurant since they had closed for a while and I remember how wonderful they were before. Now verydisappointed. Read more

The service was very slow and when the food came out to our table after an hour of waiting for it was old and like rubber. Would... definitely not recommend ever going here ever. The place honestly needs shut down and if ever opened again needs completelycleaned and staff properly trained or something different done Read more

Breakfast is, by far, my fave meal of the day. One of my former students, now a dear friend, was in town visiting her folks, so... we celebrated her birthday by getting together for breakfast st V.I. and Liz, our server, took super good care of us. The foodwas delicious, and the service was quick and efficient while also giving my friend and I plenty of time to visit/catch upwithout feeling rushed out the door. Great, relaxed atmosphere for a get-together. My family loves this place and is SO relievedit re-opened after the shut-down following Covid-19. Keep up the terrific work, everyone! Read more
