Came across Birkinshaw's by chance as we needed a break whilst traveling. Our son had checked Google to find somewhere for a... coffee & snack Tim's was suggested but I asked if there was an independent nearby, so we found this little gem. We were lucky toget a table the place was very inviting, quaint and the friendly staff welcomed us. We had a range of beverages beautifullyserved in China cup's and teapot's. The only difficulty was choosing from range of freshly made cakes which we all agreed weredelicious, afternoon teas looked gorgeous too. The quality, service, and portion size far exceeded our expectations, of what wewould have expected back in the UK. Just bear in mind only open Wednesday to Saturday. Read more

Authentic British afternoon tea that can be found in a small town in Nova Scotia. It was a delight having the Birkinshaw... afternoon tea at this establishment. We got served by the grandson(?) of the original owners and he told us many interestingfacts as the food was served. The afternoon tea came in a tiered serving platter with savouries on the bottom, scones in themiddle, and sweeter cakes and pastries on the top. It didn?t look like a lot of food, but it sure was filling. The clotted creamthat came with the scones are a must try and they are so delicious to apply along with the custard. It is definitely a mustvisit if you?ve never had afternoon tea before. Be sure to make a reservation as we saw a family turned away because it was fullon a Saturday afternoon. Read more

So I came in for a freak milkshake but they said they couldn?t because they were under staffed. There was only 6 people in the... cafe. They were out of a bunch of scones, lasagna, and a bunch of other items. Another customer was upset because she hadfinished her coffee before her food even showed up. It took an hour for me to get my sandwich, which was delicious and theserver was pleasant and polite which is where the stars came from. Over all I?m disappointed but that?s the reality ofbusinesses these days I guess. Read more

I so thoroughly enjoyed my Cream Tea experience! After reading all of the glowing reviews, Birkinshaw's had created some rather... high expectations to live up to. It not only exceeded expectations, it fully embodied all my hopes and dreams of what a tea roomcould be. I especially appreciated the mix-matched china with nods to Atlantic Canada. I was most impressed with how it managedboth to transport me to an English market town and stay firmly rooted in local culture and produce. I came for the MaritimeCream tea and was thoroughly and utterly delighted. It's worth coming for the homemade clotted cream alone, but my tea alsoincluded blueberry lemon scones and lavender shortbread, not to mention the lemon curd and blueberry jam. I have yet to findanother place in Canada that offers the standard cream tea like I see in British TV shows (just the scones, no finger sandwichesor dessert cakes) and I left Birkinshaw's skeptical that I could ever find a place that did it quite as well. An amazing experience! Pampered by 6 pieces of different cake. Wish to visit this cozy, cute cafe when it reopens. On-line... shopping was easy. Good quality of handcrafted cake. Highly recommended! Curry and port dishes are delicious, too. Read more
