I must admit that we were a bit hesitant to try Ocean Star because of the negative reviews. I must say, I'm glad we ignored them... and went. The food was terrific, and the service excellent. Boy oh boy they did it again!! My fiancé and I had another delicious meal in the great atmosphere of their outside seating... after the rain cleared out last Saturday, Sept 10. Food was wonderful and our server, Toby was incredible as well. So friendlyyet professional. This is by far the finest Japanese Sushi restaurant anywhere around, hands down. The food was as fresh as fresh can be. Drinks... made from scratch were excellent. Service was top shelf, with all employees assisting. You see, they are short staffed, as aremost fine restaurants, but they did not miss a beat, on all fronts. They are a bit off the beaten path, but well worth the rideto the east side of Anna Maria Island in West Manatee County. My wife is Japanese, from Tokyo, and can never wait to return tothis restaurant. The appetizers, Mussels and Tempura Shrimp/Vegetables was the best she has had since Japan and a couple highend restaurants in New York City. She had a Sushi plate and I had the seared Tuna dinner. Booked for a major family wedding celebration, poor service from the start and sadly sickness & food poisoning from sushi avoid... at all costs needs new owners asap as should be a special experience. Made worse by disputing the bill and having to call policefor such poor quality food & service, do yourself a favour and eat anywhere but here. Absolutely terrible experience. The sushi is fine, for my way of seeing it the price is a bit excessive, but the setting of the place proposes something a... little more luxurious and the price accompanies that proposal. The food is good there is a good variety of sushi, the sashimitable is quite complete, maybe not as much as in other places and the cuts are quite common for its price. The atmosphere of theplace is good, although it does not justify the value. It is located in a marina with which the restaurant is surrounded bywater and the landscapes at night are very beautiful. I got take out from here. -Pleasant over the phone -They gave me a pick up time and I got there and my order was waiting and... ready for me -employees were very nice and greeted me as soon as I walked through the door -the restaurant is beautiful and theview is amazing -best miso soup I’ve ever had and the sushi was delicious -just vacationing here but I will definitely becoming back before I leave and again when I come back!
