We came here from out of town, looking to experience a little of the Asheville weekend nightlife. There was a comedy show... advertised and it seemed like a small but respectable venue when looking online. If I hadn't looked at the map ahead of time,I'd have thought Google had gotten us lost. The street the venue is on is largely more industrial than developed. The bar itselflooks as though it has seen better days. There are eclectic styles, and then there's just unfinished/shoddy which is the linethis venue seems to tow. No food, limited bar, the comedy show was in what appeared to be a poorly done addition to the side ofthe building with walls left unfinished. That being said, for a $15 comedy show it was entertaining enough. I don't think we'dbe back, but it was definitely an experience. Read more
This place is a dive bar and I come here for comedy. When it's warm out, the outside is a great place to hang and watch live... shows or sit by the river. They've built a closed-in patio space for shows during the winter to keep you toasty. The drinks arecheap. The bartenders are friendly. Parking is limited. Read more
A must visit. The Getaway river bar has a definite dive bar vibe so if you?re looking for something fancy or upscale suggest... heading elsewhere. The crowd seemed to be local when we visited and the bar is also frequented by motorcycle enthusiasts. Thisis a great low key bar with inexpensive drinks to hang with friends outside by the river. They have pool tables indoors, anddarts outdoors. We sat by the river, got some Moscow mules, and watched kayakers and paddle boarders as they made their waythrough the river. I stopped by with my brother, loving the vibe. Enjoying the lovely river view. Unfortunately, there was a rather large German... shepherd being (to what I felt) incredibly aggressive. I don't know where the dog came from, but I assume other people werefamiliar with it because they yelled "Buck" at him, so they must have known the dog. They were trying to call it back becausemyself and others were worried it was going to bite. We ended up being too nervous to stay, which is terrible because it was abeautiful bar. Read more
