Atmosphere is great, service is phenomenal, food is incredible. I ordered the steak salad and found that the lettuce to topping... ratio was perfect! You know sometimes it’s all lettuce or all toppings, but this was just right and the salad was beautifullydressed. Collard greens were decent. Tender but a little bland. Still good tho. The staff accommodated my requests quickly andwith a smile, even something they said they don’t typically do. Overall a very pleasant experience. I will definitely return. Read more

The Caboose is one of my favorite restaurants. They have locally sourced food and a menu that changes seasonal. You can’t go... wrong stopping in for lunch or dinner. I haven’t tried their breakfast but I’m sure it is equally as good. The market has agreat selection of beer and wine, as well as some locally made foods. The staff is provides excellent recommendations. You canlet them know what type of wines you like and they’ll put together a box. Read more

This review is for the Market only. We were passing by the Caboose from the parking lot on our way to another restaurant. We... decided to check out this place. They have a good selection of wine and beer. The sales person was very knowledgeable andhelped me picked out exactly what I was looking for. After shopping, I walked to the back of the store where the dining roomwas. I was welcomed with most amazing scent from the open kitchen. The food smelled so good, I wanted to sit down and eat rightaway. We will definitely go back there soon. Read more

Very nice place near railroad tracks. Specializes in locally procured food. My family annoyed the stuffed grape leaves but this... redneck didn't touch them. I did have the grilled cornbread that was delicious. If I base this review entirely on my entree itwould be lower however the others in our party had a better experience. For an entree I had the steak salad which was ok but Iwould have preferred some seasoning on the meat. The dressing was somewhat tasteless. My son had a salmon sandwich which he saidwas great. My daughter had a bean burger which she also raved about. My wife had a salad which again was ok, mostly lettuce butthe dressing was apparently delicious. The hit of the day was the marscipone ice cream brownie which we devoured. Overall a goodexperience. Next time I'll try the beef sandwich. Read more

Absolutely delicious! The dolmas and grilled cornbread were killer ???? the honey and pepper on the cornbread had my mouth... watering. I got the veggie burger w potato salad and mmm they really know what they’re doing here. I already know the chefhad a handlebar mustache and a leather apron and put a lot of love into these dishes. My dad got the steak salad and didn’tlove it but I didn’t eat it, so can’t knock my score! 10/10 for me Read more

Definitely a great little spot for a delicious sandwich. The ambience is that of a sandwich shop but they also serve beer.... There's also a wine and cheese shop in the front. The menu changes regularly so there are new items to try seasonally. Read more

I was surprised last Monday, October 25th, 2021, to find myself dining in The Caboose Market and Cafe. I had not been in... Ashland, VA, since 2017, and I had returned hoping to dine once more with the lovely owner of Monique’s Crepes at her mobilesite. But on this occasion she had slipped away—I don’t THINK she knew I was coming, but she may have good radar—and so,thank heaven for the opportunity to dine in the Caboose! If you have not been to Ashland, you will enjoy your visit: it is avery pretty college town, where almost everything seems to be within walking distance—although you must dart or drive back andforth over the active railroad tracks that cut the town virtually through the middle! Ashland’s embrace of the railroad seemswholehearted, and it enjoys at least two visits daily of the beloved Amtrak commuter. But you are hungry—or seeking wine orcheese: and as I did Monday, you have come to the right place! Pricey but classy, The Caboose will entertain you whether asParisian style you dine al fresco beside the neat tracks of the local chemin-de-fer, or in the cosy deep interior dining area inthe rear. “You can get most anything you want” here, and most anything you order will be splendid. Everyone is very friendlyand helpful: if the cleverness of the menu is a little puzzling, your waiter will take time with you to ensure you get preciselywhat you want. It is even easy to strike up a conversation with the locals—I enjoyed a long and enjoyable chat with a lovelycouple on the history and memories of Ashland—which had changed impressively even in the four years I had been away!—One ofthe impressive changes being the expansion of the restaurant we were enjoying into its present and very beautiful butterfly! Iinclude—as I try to nowadays—a number of photographs. Read more
