I'm not sure if I am just too much of a custard connoisseur but this place really did not impress me all that much. We spent the... afternoon walking around Astoria window-shopping and saw this place on Google so we decided to give it a shot. We visitedmid-afternoon and there was no line. Their menu shows a wide variety of fried treats and hamburgers, which all soundeddelicious. I decided to go with my usual however which is a vanilla cone with rainbow sprinkles. This is were they lose the mostpoints in my book. The sprinkles they use are those little spherical ones that are way harder than the longer ones you typicallysee on ice cream and pastries. They are very hard and difficult to eat. Sprinkles fans will know what I am talking about. Thisplace seems to be an Astoria institution and it can be found in a cool little building right on Commercial Street. For thesereason alone, it is worth a visit. Just don't get the sprinkles.. Great service, burgers and custard. People complain about having to wait in a line here, but good things are worth a wait. One of the best burgers ever I've had. Husband got the Bacon Cheeseburger (pictured), and I got the Black and Blue burger (cajun... seasoning, bacon,and blue cheese). Both VERY good. Only open between 12 noon and 6 or 7 depending on the day. Luckily we weresecond in line, but the line started forming before it even opened. Definitely recommended. We don't usually pass this waythrough Astoria on way back from coast, we might start making this the new route. Read more
Quaint lil place off of highway 30 (Marine Drive) The quality is always amazing, the staff even friendlier. Even the birds seem... to enjoy finding scraps from left behind meals from memories past. Nothin beats the custard except maybe the fish or the friesor the shrimp or the tots or the burgers or the sandwiches or actually nah the custard is the best thing here no doubt. But thenon sweet items are pretty tasty too. A true gem in the wall, perfect for sharing. Or if sharing isn?t your thing you couldtotally hide here if you need a tiiiiny break from your family vacation. Ya feel me? OH almost forgot to mention that if you areREAL lucky you could have an encounter with THE Custard King himself, pudgy little man made out of custard that slops off whilehe moves and talks. Super neat experience, almost missed the opportunity too. Afternoon at exactly 2:34pm MAYBE 2:36pm is yourbest bet in experiencing King Custard himself. Fish and chips were very delicious! Enjoyed both sauces. There was no bitterness nor smell from these fried food items, which... means you guys change your frying oil. Keep up the good work. Will be back for more. Read more
This is exactly my favorite type of place. Old school walkup ambience with fantastic food and friendly service. I had the... Bacon Cheese with grilled onions. Wife had a fish taco, and the kids had fish and chips. Side of tots. All excellent. Fastservice to our picnic table in the parking lot. Fish taco was a little on the small side but my wife wasn't super hungry so shewas perfectly pleased with it. If you have a big appetite, take this into consideration. Read more
Surprisingly good clam chowder. I didn't expect much from a dessert stand's clam chowder, but I've had worse from places that... claimed to be all about seafood. Unfortunately the custard wasn't available in chocolate, and I'm not a connoisseur of vanilla,so I can only compare it to a very good soft serve ice cream. The hot fudge and cookie dough toppings were generous and helpedadd a chocolate flair, perhaps a return visit will be required. Read more
