I had high hopes for Alon's pastries based on reviews. But having tried the almond crossiant and the apple struedel slice, I now... know that it's extremely mediocre. The almond crossiant is middling. It was pleasantly flavored but not crisp at all. Thedistinct, delicate layers I've come to expect from crossiants were not present. It tasted like one connected, soft mass ofpastry—like a Costco crossiant but sweet instead of savory. The almond topping and filling was disappointing in that it justtasted like lightly flavored sugar. I don't know if I'm being ridiculous to expect more complex notes in my pastries... Theapple streudel slice is honestly just plain bad. There's raisins in it for some reason. I can't imagine who came up with thatidea or why, but it doesn't work. I think it was stale based off of the soft texture of its crust. Don't order this item. Theiced coffee is good—I like whatever beans they used. Drinking their coffee made me realize that I've been drinking terriblecoffee for my entire life. I added a star to this review because of it. The staff is very friendly, and I appreciated thecandid recommendations the employee we talked to gave us. My takeaway from this is: if you're visiting Atlanta from a muchsmaller town, don't think you're going to find a better bakery here. Alon's is overhyped. I visited Atlanta from Gainesville,FL, and our local bakeries are much, much better than this. Like, not even in the same ball park. Great sandwiches, soups, salads, and desserts. I went for the first time and had a little sample of a few dishes as we shared... some meals. Everything we had was delicious. The Market section is really nice and I could spend a bunch of $ on productshere. The staff was welcoming and put up with our newbie questions. I'll be back again to try more dishes. It has a lovely market style ambiance. We got a pesto chicken sandwich and roast beef sandwich with coffee and a hot chocolate.... Also for to go are 2 blueberries muffins and 1 Danish cheese bread. ... Price is at expensive side. ... Customer service wasgood. ... The ready made sandwiches is healthy side kind. In a nutshell: I loved this place!!! a true bakery with fresh bread and croissants and pastries... fresh coffee and a very... pleasant outdoor area to just enjoy your java, have a chat with a friend or conduct a business meeting (which was my case). Theoutdoor area is protected by some screens, to break the wind or keep the pollen out, which was very welcomed as we’re in theseason for it. For me it was a great finding: a bakery shop right outside the perimeter area in Atlanta. Selection and varietyof bread is good (at least from my perspective), personnel at the store was very friendly and offered me options, prices arereasonable and there’s ample parking space right outside, as part of a little shopping mall. In addition to “bread andcoffee” there’s a selection of other items, even some little party trays that you may want to bring home in case you’reentertaining. Located right outside the perimeter, is very accessible and easy to go to. Not only that I recommend the placewhen looking for a nice breakfast experience or a mid-afternoon sweet indulgence, but I already included it into my good listand will definitely come back next time I'm in town. Nice place to get a cup of coffee, some sweet, sit and relax. Good pastry and drink options. Place I clean and employees make... your visit pleasant. Nice outdoor sitting patio where is great for beautiful days. They also have good wine selection and youcan buy your basic groceries. Read more
