It was packed the night I went. Inside is a little small and loud. Tried a few different vegetarian tacos. I can't even say I... remember which ones except for the "El Hippie" because it was phenomenal. I still think about that taco. Also, had the "SpicyFrozen" margarita, it was on-point. The largest downside, which is invading all of Austin, is the price. $5.50 for a veggietaco and $14 for a margarita is on the high side for a casual taqueria. Read more
Only good thing here is the drinks. Don?t order the beef fajita. (It?s not real fajita) Let?s start at the chips and salsa. The... salsa itself was pretty liquidy and flat, not much flavor here. Served in a plastic single-use container. The chips were verythick and didn?t have that fresh corn chip flavor you want also the chips had what i would describe as ?Dorito cheese dust? allover them. This dorito cheese flavor didn?t quite mix well with the salsa- i wish we would have been told about the chips beingthis way because it?s a totally different chips and salsa experience that seems more suitable for a kids meal.. Now for thereal food. I was recommended the Pirata described as ?grilled beef fajita? on the menu but what i received was 100% NOT beeffajita at all. It was a low quality ?beef chuck? that had been pressure cooked to make it more tender. This beef was so chewy ittook me half an hour to chew through it. This beef belongs in a stew or, not a beef fajita taco.. Has anyone else experiencedthis here? I know exactly how beef fajita meat should taste and this was NOT beef fajita. Too bad. If i wasn?t starving and 20minutes from home i wouldn?t have eaten it. The service from our bartender was chill and relaxed which I enjoyed. Refills and 1quality check was offered. Now for the staff. There were 2 employees (one was a manager) that took a bar seat right next to usand gossiped about other employees the whole time we were there. (Management styles, communication etc) Not to mention the placewas mostly empty- i guess we were lucky enough to have front row seats! The check-out experience was a bust. The bartenderhands you this greasy payment terminal (gross) which you have to run your card and tip all at once in front of the bartender. Alittle awkward. this place has a weird vibe. i liked the food it was alright and the interior decor was well done. there is a bar in the... restaurant but honestly it feels like there?s a restaurant in a bar, not the other way around. the queso was painfully mediocrebut if you?re a tourist then you won?t be able to taste the difference. the location is convenient and overall a solidrestaurant. Delicious tacos and drinks! We got their classic margaritas on the rocks with salted rim, it was tasty! We also got the nachos... with cheese and those are great home made chips! A friend suggested tacos from here. What could go wrong? Ordered a fish, shrimp & chicken taco. The fish was shoe leather... tough. The shrimp possibly undercooked. The chicken was meh. My thought was you got to work hard to screw up tacos. But, theydid on my first visit. Read more
This is my go to restaurant in Austin -- no reservations needed and always a vibrant atmosphere! CJ is the kindest staff, he... noticed we left our dogs toy there one evening (which we didn't even recall) and waiting until we returned and saved it for us.(Also I feel I should note the whole staff is great!).
