I love this place - get your hamburger just like you'd grill out in the back yard! Fresh vegetables, great fries & onion... rings! Not to mention friendly staff! Read more

This place is kind of a blast from the past. It?s been here since the 1970s and it looks like they haven?t remodeled much of it.... That being said the atmosphere is so chill. They also have a drive up which is super dope. I went inside but I did considergoing to the drive up. I ordered the veggie burger ???? with tots and a large drink ???? The lemonade I got was super good. Ihad to water it down just a tad because it was a bit sweet for me. The burger was delicious. They have a charcoal grill and itmakes a difference with how you make the food. I loved my burger the taste was so much better. The only thing that took awayfrom it was they use American cheese ???? and I don?t like it. It?s a personal preference and they didn?t ask so I assumed itwould be cheddar. If there was cheddar I think this would be a 5star place! Read more

I loved that this was not a fast food dining experience.  Orders are dropped as the come in from the dining room and car hop... stalls. Fries aren't sitting under heat lamps. My onion rings were freshly hot, as was my corn dog. I also appreciated that theylet me order a kid's meal and substitute the fries for those onion rings. My chocolate malt was a little loose, but had a greatmalted flavor. I am very excited to discover this malt--the ones in this 20 mile radius do NOT compare.  You have officiallywon a malt fan! I can see why Top Notch has survived so long in Austin. I'm excited to have finally found them! Read more

The food is OKAY but the ambience is amazing. Awesome old school feel that is rare to find nowadays. Amazing neon signage and... classic interior, go here for the feeling, not necessarily for the food. Read more

An Austin mainstay since 1971. I've lived in Austin now for almost 5 years and only came here once before today. It was when I... first moved here, got the food to go, and drove 20 miles home to cold food. Came again today with the kids and I wish I hadn'twaited so long to come back. We, my two son, daughter and myself, all really enjoyed our food. I had the Longhorn Special (withno changes) and onion rings. One of my son's had the Top Pick, the other son had the cheeseburger and my daughter had a kidscheeseburger. All my kids gave Top Notch 5 stars. My burger was cooked perfectly, the beef itself was juicy and tender. Thecharcoal grilled flavor really shined through, even my kids noticed it. The service was friendly, the dining room as clean, andthe only potential negative was the shake machine was indeed broken (insert McDonald's meme). That one issue wasn't enough toreduce my 5 star rating. I'll return far more often now. Read more

Top Notch definitely has the backyard burger flavor. Some love it- others don?t. To me, the charcoal broiled burger had more of... a lighter fluid flavor, but was pretty traditional tasting. The prices didn?t seem bad at first, but once I realized the combossit. come with fries or a drink, added up quickly (think $11+ to start). It?s an iconic spot and it?s Austin so I get it. Butotherwise, I?d rather pay a visit to Whataburger. Read more

Cute diner with some personality throughout. Corn was fine, green beans were a boiled mess. Burger was fun...you really can... taste the char on the burger, shredded cheese is cute but the most distinctive part of this place is the bun. Crispy edges withchewy bread. It was good for a fast burger. Service was good but only because the guy taking orders outside didn't see me comein so I walked indoors. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit here but if you're in the area, it's far better than nationalchains. Read more
