I have been going to the Rat for more than 15yrs and was hoping the food quality and menu would remain, but sadly not. The Rat... was always known for the great menu, beers, prices and staff. Unfortunately the New owners have definitely changed the menu,raised the food prices, but give you less. No beer choices..who doesn't have all day IPA? Paulette your definitely missed atthis place!! There?s a reason the parking lot is never full anymore. New owners came in, increased prices by at least 30% and quality of food... is much lower. Given the new owners a few chances but will not be back. Really sad because this was truly the best food optionon Midland St and was consistently good. Worst cod I?ve ever had - looked like hospital food. Their steak special costs 50% morethan it used to and to put it plainly IT STINKS. Even the sandwich meat is noticeably cheaper. The SERVICE was Top Shelf! The place was clean and the ambience was welcoming! The food was above average. The "brats" could... have been thicker, the shredded cheese on the nachos needed to be melted and the fries could use a little extra time in thefryer. Other than that, expected tasty bar style food! Such a rad spot! Food is great and the homemade chips are dangerous. Beer is cold with a decent selection. Outside patio is... great and you can tell it?s a local favorite. Bartender is super nice and checks back on you at the perfect time. It is myhope that this place never changes. Read more
The perch on Fridays has been dependably excellent, every time I happen to stop in for some. No need for the tartar sauce... The... steak on Thursday has been made to my perfection as well. For price and quality food/service, I definitely recommend theRathskeller. Read more
