It's been a bit since we've been here and they still have great atmosphere, attentive service and a wonderful menu with classic... German food and other offerings. The sauerbraten was excellent, very flavorful and not overly vinegary. We enjoyed a lateSaturday afternoon lunch and it was the quiet time just before the dinner crowd started to come in. Perfect! The food was wonderful. The veal is excellent. My wife was still talking about it this morning. That said, it doesn't seem to be... very handy capt friendly. There are 2 steps to get into the front door and the bathroom stall was too small to get my walkerinto it. However, the staff was very helpful when inside the restaurant. It was a very pleasant experience. We will go backagain when we are in the neighborhood. Read more

We took a drive today to oak chalet in Bellmore. I think over the years we tried almost every german restaurant in the area. So... the oak was on of the missing ones. We started of with the pretzel wich was really good. For Main course we had the sauerbratenand Schnitzel Holstein. The kids sausage and Spätzle. Everything was taste less and not even close to any kind of germancusine. It really taste like hospital or retirement food ? how that taste ? Like nothing taste less ? They charged $10 for asmall riesling glass and $9 for beers prices like manhattan on long Island. If you can dont waste your time and money go therenothing good when it comes down to food and german beer you can get now in any good restaurant or Bar. I think from all wetried now this will get the crown for the last place? Totally overpriced for the food you get ? Read more

Excellent pretzel. Great beers and good atmosphere. I take away the star in comparison to some German establishments in the... five boroughs. The goulash, while tender needed some seasoning. The spaetzle just comes out bare and boiled, a little salt orsomething would be nice. Read more

My favorite German spot on LI! This place is great. The staff are all friendly and make you feel like family. I don't think the... decor has changed since the 80s but it's so classic and kept very clean. And the food is out if this world. I went with thewurst platter with potato pancakes. You get 3 sausages in total. One pork, one beef, and one veal. All a good size withdistinctly different tastes. The pork was my favorite with a bit of a smoky flavor to it. The potato pancakes were nice andcrispy. They had a soft inside and were the best with a spoonful of applesauce on top. I also tried the Jagerschnitzel. This wasprobably my favorite Jagerschnitzel I've ever had in a restaurant. It's veal, not pork, and between them cooking it perfectlyand the taste of the mushroom sauce, I was in love. For desert, I went with a peach Melba. I believe it was Häagen-dazs icecream, a fresh sliced peach on top, and a layer of raspberry jam. Great way to end the meal. Read more
