This is one of my favorite places in southern WI. Wonderful local items -- the hot sauces are our faves--, it's a great place to... have lunch (with good vegetarian options), and a well-curated used book selection! Interesting combination of lunch counter, grocery store, coffee shop and lending library in downtown Beloit. Coffee counter in... the back. Get there during lunch hours for a selection of tasty sandwiches. Grocery shelves include local products from honey topasta to booze, and there's a large cold case and freezer case with meals and sauces to take out. The front part of the store islined with bookshelves, and there are tables and comfy chairs to sit, drink your coffee, and browse through a book. Read more

My wife and I had dinner here on our way up to Madison from Chicago. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Food was good and... really hot the spot. My tuna melt was pretty standard, and my wife's black bean burgers was homemade and delicious. The frenchfries where really good as well. The best was the chocolate peanut butter cheese cake we had, so rich and decadent. The generalstore is also nice and cute. The whole vibe of the place is super welcoming. Read more
I never give 5 stars but this place is worth driving a few miles off of the interstate. They even have a hot sauce and jam... sample station of the things they make.
