It's small, but the food is traditional, so what they lack in the atmosphere they make up is the carefully crafted care in the... way the food is prepared, tasting the cornucopia of Mixe, Mayan, Pipil, Xinca, and many indigenous groups. I have never been toEl Salvador, but this place makes me feel like I'm in San Salvador. Read more

Great authentic food. The grilled chicken was a little dry but the pupusas, casamiento and fried plantains were outstanding

The first thing I noticed was how affordable this place is. This is my favorite place to get tamales salvadoreños. The platanos... tasted good and homemade. The service is nice and friendly. Definitely recommend. Read more

Platano is swinging for the fences with tasty Salvadorian and Central American food, large portions, friendly staff come a great... selection of beers that traditionally go along with these dishes, walk up friendly location, and like the name says, Platanos! If you've never had one of these tasty treats which is a variation on a fried banana, but with way more flavor, you need to stopin here. I ordered the Bistek, (steak. Most Latin and Caribbean countries have their own take on this dish) with black beansand rice, platanos, and a side salad on the plate. Someone's mom is obviously working in this kitchen because this is old schoolgoodness, and for people who want some authentic Latin food, I would absolutely go here as opposed to some pricey Upscalehipster hangout like Comal. Platinol has been holding it down since 2006, and the quality hasn't changed once. Family run, andfamily operated, this place is my favorite Central American eatery in the East Bay. Highly recommended Read more

Plátano is a salvadorian restaurant with delicious Pupusas ????!! The Pupusas sizes are large and can fill you up. There are... many other typical salvadorian plates to enjoy as well. There are plenty of seats and the restaurant size is pretty large for aspace in Berkeley. Service was great and the food was yummy. Parking around this area can be a challenge, so be prepared tocircle around a bit if not trying to park in the structure/garage. Read more

Loved the food at Plátano. As a Salvadoran it?s nice to see a restaurant that is dedicated to bringing traditional food to you.... Came at lunch time for my father?s birthday to celebrate. Very heavy plates with handmade tortillas. Only issue I had is towardsthe back of the restaurant it?s a bit dark and not a lot of lights turned on so it gives the restaurant a bit of a gloomy vibe.If more lights were turned on it would be a lot better, but the food is definitely worth it! Hope to come back soon :) Read more
