Charkoal Portuguese Grill is conveniently located at the Berkley Heights train station. This first visit for takeout proved to... be really good experience. I ordered the Garlic Shrimp, which came with Rice & French Fries. The rice tasted freshly made andwas plentiful; the Garlic Shrimp was well seasoned and the aroma alone made me eager to taste. Once I got home with my order Icouldn?t wait to dive in. The food was still hot and ready for me to devour. I enjoyed the meal immensely, but could have donewithout the fries because as always, when fries are covered in an aluminum pan, they lose their crispness; other than that,everything was great; I will most definitely go back & try other menu items. Ordered over the phone, they told me the pick up was in 20 minutes. After waiting for another 15 minutes in the store (35-40... minutes total) I got the food. I don?t mind waiting if they are busy but there was absolutely no one in the store. The chickenwas super dry, the french fries were so dry , the mixed veggies were awful. Tried 1/2 chicken in garlic sauce with rice and beans as side. Taste was awesome.Price was reasonable.
The sauce they use for the chicken is top notch. Different than the standard sauce you get at other places. Good size chicken,... fries are not mushy. The flan is a good dessert too. Will go back for more... Read more
