Staff is very friendly except the cashier was not as friendly. Everything was clean. Gave it a 4 star only because for a BBQ... restaurant I would expect more BBQ. Chicken is one of the main things on their menu and it is not BBQ chicken. Tasted likechicken I make at home. So it was disappointing. The portion you get is worth the money. They have mini golf here that isinexpensive. Ice cream here looks amazing and there was a line for the icecream. I wouldnt come back for the dine in, but wouldcome back to try the ice cream. Best chicken around, hands down. It is juicy and flavorful and absolutely delicious! Most fund raisers use them for bakes in the... area but the restaurant is right on par. Definitely no frills but when you make food right like this, you don't need much else.Highly recommended. Read more
We stopped there on a trip through the area. Ordered the roast beef and the half chicken platters which come with the salad bar... last weekend. We wholeheartedly endorse the place and the food. If you like plenty of food at reasonable prices, you won't bedisappointed. Very popular with the locals. It's about a mile or two off Exit 16 on Route 78, located just off old 22 andGravel Pit Road. We were traveling and Kauffmans was conveniently off the highway and was rated 4.6 so we decided to stop. When we pulled in the... parking lot was packed. The building looked deceivingly small. Oh my it was very spacious and could seat many. The restaurantis cafeteria style (think flashbacks of elementary school but no one tries to steal your milk money). I had the special (BBQsandwich with fries) which was okay. But the hubby had 1/2 chicken and he said it was very very good. He got baked potato andsalad. I got a slice of raw blueberry pie and it was delicious. The hubby got cinnamon custard. Cinnamon top and custardwere very good crust was not so good. All in all a great flashback. Read more
cafeteria style. all the regulars know that, when it's busy, they'll stand on line for at least awhile, the regulars know it's... worth it. I rarely get anything from the cake, pie, jello and pudding cabinet. i like to, but, it's often rather empty when Iget to it. I would like to see more in the case... alright, i also don't usually get any 'zert' because I'm stuffed to the gillsfrom my meal. their bbq chicken is excellent the filling is mostly mashed potatoes, and it's good, really good. they have lotsof good things on their menu board, which those who, aren't sure or want something other than chicken can have instead. in a bigthunderstorm(been that, done there) it's great to go sit on their large veranda,which overlooks a big, beautiful pond - ducks,geese, and usually the pond swan, floating around. I'm writing a book, here! kauffmans, is the place to go for a nice time andreal food(no chefs "creations", just good Pennsylvania Dutch food. I've been going there for 36 years and nothing has reallychanged about the menu. the building is very nice, and clean(all the rooms...) and comfy. lots of chatter, gets a bit loud. itkind of goes with the place...however, there's That veranda... also: mini golf right outside. and a separate building for yourreiunions and such. a beautiful drive, too. no alcoholic beverages(good!) enough! I'm making myself too hungry... there's adrive-in like counter inside with lots of ice cream type goodies, if you can fit' em in...... While driving around the PA countryside, you wouldn't think that you'll find a delicious, homey kind of BBQ in Bethel, PA. While... quite off the beaten path, the place seems to be built to serve hundreds. It's a sprawling extension of a farm next door, andyou can end up playing a round of mini golf, or shoot some balls at the driving range. We had the Boneless Pork Ribs from theSpecials and the Cali Cheesesteak and both were huge, flavorful bombs of a meal! Excellent house dressing on the salad was justa cherry on top! We'll be back!
