We stopped here for dinner on a Tuesday evening. This was admittedly not our first choice but the two other places we wanted to... go to were closed. This should have been our first hint to just go and grab a burger. Anyway, we were seated quickly enough buthad to wait nearly ten minutes for our server to show up. As you can see in the pictures, they were not busy and other staffmembers were walking around and engaged in conversation meanwhile, we sat. This should have been our second hint to go grab aburger. The final nail in this coffin was the food. It was horrendous. The food had clearly been sitting out for several hoursbefore we arrived. There is absolutely no excuse for this pathetic performance at $23 a plate. So, lesson learned here is, ifthis is the only Amish style/smorgasbord option for you, do yourself a favor and go grab a burger. Read more

Family style restaurant in Lancaster County PA serving good comfort food at a reasonable price. The restaurant seems quite... popular and there was a 20 minute wait before we were seated. We opted to order off the menu although the buffet overs a widerselection of choices. Our server was very friendly and cou you’d and offered suggestions on the menu. We wanted to try the hamballs but not as an entree. She brought us each a single ball so that we could give it a try. It’s has the consistency ofmeatloaf but with minced ham. It was delicious ????. Bird-in Hand Family Restaurant & Smorgasbord is more of a tourist type restaurant than an authentic Amish cultural experience. ... Granted they don’t explicitly advertise themselves as such, but the vibe is there. The smorgasbord is not more than typicalbuffet with exception of the of the pork in sauerkraut and a few of the desserts. Overall I’m glad we stopped by, but wouldchoose elsewhere next time. Terrific home style restaurant! The food here is delicious and all local. I would highly recommend the smorgasbord unlimited... buffet, which has a wide variety of meats, pastas, soups, vegetables, and deserts. There is something here for everybody toenjoy. They also had unique dishes on the buffet such as ham balls and cheeseburger soup. This restaurant has all you can askfor, and the buffet is only $25! With great home style cooking, friendly and attentive staff, reasonable prices, and a verypleasant atmosphere, I give this place my full recommendation. Read more

I've been to Bird in hand family restaurant and buffet several times, and have only ever had wonderful experiences. The staff... is always very pleasant and attentive, and the food is always very delicious. The buffet has hot and cold items to choose from,with plenty of options, even for picky eaters; from mashed potatoes, Mac and cheese, fried chicken, meatloaf, soups, salads,nuggets, and more. This one of my favorite places in the USA. BUT, after a two hour drive their buffet was not the same pre-covid. Limited items.... All tasty. But not what I was used to. The selection of meats was amazing. Now, well.... ????.... I hope they pick it up.Still a great place. But I will call before returning. I don't want to be disappointed for a second time.
