Above average, not superior. I had a Tom Collins and it was a good one. Ordered the grilled oysters starter- it was excellent.... Ordered grilled grouper in tomato broth-it ended up being my least favorite part of the meal. The fish was ‘swimming’ inbroth and it could have used some mash as a base to soak up some of that flavor. It was an unusual combination, which cansometimes be a good thing, but for me it just didn’t impress. I did like the cilantro on top- that went a long way towardsbringing the flavors of the dish together. The sides were really tasty- I had the cracked cucumbers and crispy potatoes and theyboth had a lot of great flavors in them that just paired together beautifully. I ended the meal with the molten chocolatedessert and was honestly a little disappointed with it. The malted chocolate ice cream had such a mild taste that it wasoverpowered by the molten cake and the cake texture and flavor itself was a little ‘blah’. I did like the chocolate crumbleson the bottom- they added a nice texture. Overall, it was a good experience in a cute venue, and kudos to the chef for changingthe menu each day and being creative. There are lots of surprises on the menu at Automatic. The fried fish collar was a delight, with zingy pickled red onion and a... zippy chili butter. Grilled oysters were outstanding. Complex and balanced. Make sure to get the rolls, because everything comeswith a sauce and you’ll want to soak up every bit of sauce on any plate set before you. How can I put this D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S!! ????delicious may be an understatement scrumptious, tasty, mouthwatering, Heavenly, ... divine MAYBE one of those words will do it justice. The JAMES BEARD award was definitely earned not given. The service was topnotch Philip one of the waiters was highly recommended from another great spot ironwood by Alan. Philip wasn't our waiter but hechecked In on us as much as our wonderful waitress did and that made the experience even better. The vibe was great and therestaurant is a little gem. Read more
Such a darling restaurant with a beautiful interior, awesome atmosphere, and great service! Fish and chips were the best we’d... ever have (fries were to die for!) and the grouper (pictured) was amazing. All in all a lovely experience. We didn’t have areservation tonight (Sunday night around 7), got in at the oyster bar within 5 minutes. Justin, our server, was super cheerful,attentive, and knowledgeable. We will be back! Read more
Visiting Birmingham and wanted to try some good seafood (even though I’m coming from San Diego???????????) this place is... amazing. The atmosphere was good. The service was really good. Our waitress was a very nice lady who kept a very close eye onour table. The food was omg so delicious,perfect consistency,so flavorful and loved watching the chef putting his last toucheson the plates before it was getting served. Most comfortable bar seats I've ever sat in, in my life! The drinks were incredible. The food I have to admit was rather... average. I was shocked to see such cheap dinner rolls as such a high-end restaurant. The chocolate dessert was the best thingon the menu. Read more
