Was a transcending experience. I felt as if I was taken to a different world, country, time era, underground district ambiance.... Very cool. Food is really good too. It’s dimly lit so you depend more on your taste buds to really take in the dishes. So youtaste more experience more but your eyes are drawn to a big movie screen playing what I believe to be a thai action film. Alsothe menu is not catered to English and novice thai food enthusiasts. The menu is labeled in Thai rather than English conversionlike drunken noodle being pad kee mao etc. Read more

When entering Mao Mao you are transported to another world. Neon signs, old posters, and a night time open air movie theater and... street fair absorb you straight to decades past Thailand. The ambiance is one of the best I’ve ever seen in a restaurant.Seating is old stools or old cinema seats, everything set to low lit lights and lanterns. The menu consists of Thai street food, very different from your usual thai place. The drinking snacks we got had a lot of flavor and spice. The chicken wings come in aplastic cup and you have to shake it so all the sauce gets to them. The cilantro and special sauce give it a very differentflavor from regular american wings. The thai style fried chicken I ordered as a main (I forgot the actual ingredients) had avery flavorful and rich breading, with an onion and radishes salad along with it. A great restaurant, one I’m definitelylooking forward to go back to. Read more

Mao Mao is literally my favorite restaurant in New York. Perfect for a date or a fun dinner with friends or folks from out of... town. The food is delicious while being pretty cheap. Fun alcohol choices for both beer and Ya Dong (Thai liquor). The place isdesigned like a casual movie theater, and they are typically showing old martial arts movies or muay thai fights on the bigprojector. Read more

Food are good, especially the soup that comes with the chicken rice thing. Nice vibe , cool place. However, too many paper... plates and plastic????. Hope they can improve this issue. Read more

If you are looking for a fun, different kind of vibe, this is your place! I could have never pictured it if explained, but it... truly is an experience. The food and drinks are delicious. I wouldn’t pay $14 for my drink again, but it was tasty. The foodwas good and reasonable pricing. Read more

Really unique spot for Thai food in a stylish venue that’s got a real old school cinema vibe, even down to the theater bucket... seats. Do wish the seating was a little more optimized to talk to each other, though. Read more

This unique experience is unlike any other. Authentic Thai food indeed. Movie theater styled restaurant, with seats that are... auditorium styled. A movie is playing on the wall augmented by a mix of music. The music was a bit loud since I could barelyhave a conversation at dinner. We used our phone flashlights to view the menu since it was incredibly dark where we wereseated. The food was tasty and delicious. They serve you in plastic plates, which was quite interesting. They have a displayof elixirs that I didn’t try since I went for the house plum wine. However, I do encourage anyone to try it out it lookedtasty. The service was great, the servers are attentive and helpful. The decor is incredible and unlike any other. Thelocation is not handicap accessible since a set of stairs is required to descend into the restaurant. The establishment isawarded four stars for the decor, service and quality of food. Food menu should have a description of the meal. For instance ifyou are having Chicken Breast with Veggies. It should indicate how the chicken is prepared, what vegetables accompany such mealetc. The music can be lowered a bit to allow conversations and a bit more lighting in certain parts of the establishment toallow patrons to view the menu without using a phone flashlight. Highly recommend this place. Great decor and food. Read more
