We visited from out of town and tried this place for the first time. Loved the foods we ordered especially the spicy beef ramen... and the wagyu beef skews. The service could use some improvements though — for example, we had to ask for spoons to eat ourramen. Hut we do plan to come back here when we’re in town. Read more

SUCH a cool place! We were staying at the Hyatt Regency after a positioning flight into SFO in order to fly to Europe the next... day. We found Mokutanya on Yelp only 3 minutes from our hotel. It was soooo cool! I've never been to a restaurant like this. The tables are divided into rooms by glass partitions and each have sunken areas where your legs go. The skewers were soamazing. Our favorites were the spicy pork belly, black cod, spicy waygu, and the bacon enoki mushroom skewers. Everyone thatworked there was genuinely nice. Be forewarned... last call (on a Tuesday) is 10pm, not a minute later. The atmosphere turnsfrom dark, moody, romantic with great house or pop music to bright lights and mops on the floor the second it turns 11:00pm. This is honestly hands down one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. Almost everything we ordered was amazing and the... service was great. I can’t stress enough that you can’t go wrong with anything you order. If you’re in the bay you NEED togo out of your way to try this!!! Read more

Arrived 10 min earlier than our reservation and had to wait to get seated. That seems to be the common practice as there were... plenty of seats. Eventually was seated at a cozy table sunk into the floor. Each table separated by clear partitions givingyou some privacy to talk yet you can see everyone else. Lots of small items on the menu. We ordered several kinds of meatincluding a wagyu. Also lobster. Fish. One vegetable. And Soju to drink. It came out fairly quickly and was all prettygood. Enjoyed each of the dishes. Service was good (the bus girl was bad tho, gave us a look and attitude bc we walked in without a reservation, but our waitress... was very nice). Food taste meh, nothing special, but highly overpriced ($50/person but we certainly didn't walk out too full).Takes FOREVER for the food to come (~60 mins). Def would not come back. Oh ya, parking wasn't easy either. Read more

Amazing food and vibes! The prices were low-average for the area. I ordered the ramen and it was delicious. Not too much or too... little. The seats are on the floor and there is a section for your legs. Service was attentive without beingoverwhelming. Overall amazing experience and would eat there again and again. Read more

Unassuming fun izakaya in a strip mall next to the airport. Would give 5 stars for ambience and 4 for food. Traditional style... seating where you can take off your shoes and sit in recessed glass pods. The restaurant has fairly loud hip-hop music, tallglass dividers, cool bottles in the wall, and dim lighting with an overall club-like vibe. The Monkfish liver was light. TheFried squid was crunchy, a little tough, went well wjth spicy mayo. The Karage was crispy but did not have much flavor withoutcrispy mayo. The chicken skin was crispy but a little chewy/grisly. My friend and I had an absolutely enchanting time here. Our server Kat was the best I have ever met and was warm and attentive... throughout the duration of our time here! She knows the menu like the back of her hand and had sensational recommendations forus, was quick and agile with delivering our dishes, and anticipated and accommodated our needs without us even asking! And, bestof all, her "tableside manner" was stellar, as she provided some emotional support too (with permission) to my friend who hadjust been through an ordeal and was telling me about it! The food itself was also top-shelf for a reasonable price and the decorand atmosphere in the outside patio area is also beautiful. I also had the opportunity to observe Kat being a top-notch serverto some of the other patrons in the restaurant, so it is safe to say that she is the best in the business any day she is on thefloor.
