I won't be going back... and that saddens me. Zack's has been my go-to spot for a hot dog fix since I was first taken there as... a toddler 40 some odd years ago. In that time; it was a constant fixture of great hot dogs, burgers, fries, and conversation.This extended out to any family and friends that would visit Burlington and ask where to eat... Zack's was it. Sadly, I learnedof the new ownership and really hoped nothing would change. I waited a few months to let things shake out with the new crew andvisited yesterday for lunch. Two hotdogs with fries and a fountain drink... my standard order for decades. The chili hasdefinitely changed with far less depth of flavor, the wienie was thin and had a "snap" to the skin that just doesn't jive withZack's history. The fries seemed about the same, which was one comfort but good fries do not offset bad, unflavorful hotdogs. Unless I hear otherwise from my family and local friends... I really don't see a reason to make a trip back downtown fora hot dog. Read more
What you see is NOT what you get....I wanted to check this place out today since I've heard that they had the best hotdogs... around. I must say that I'm highly disappointed from the moment I've walked in. The staff was rude and it seems like they didn'twant to serve me and took other people's orders. So when it was finally time for me to order I've felt the negative vibe and gotmy food and left. It has been a while since we have been to Zack's Hotdogs, but it is just like we remembered it. Rick greeted us with a smile and... some great conversation. He made sure that our food, drinks, and our overall experience was great. This place is a staple andhas been around forever. Any and everyone knows about this place and we will continue to go back. So we came here once before many years ago and we were not impressed. I didn?t get the hype AT ALL. Thanks to a little toddler... who begged to go in, we gave it another shot. I think we picked the busiest time ever and look, I was blown away. We ordered andI swear I turned to look at my little dude and when I turned back around the entire table?s order was there. All of the staffwas running around like crazy and sweating but not one person was snappy. I am not sure how they do it but this place wascool. The ONLY complaint I have is the gross water they use to clean the tables right up front and less than clean aspects ofthe restaurant. They really need to shut down for a weekend and get a deep cleaning done. If you look up you might be grossedout but the food areas were clean. At the end of the day, the service was great; we had 5 hot dogs and a huge fry, three watersand walked out with a 15% tip on top of it and 15 total out the door. Read more
Cash only, classic old hot dog/ sandwich diner type place. 12:15 pm on a Friday at lunch there were two or three groups waiting... for spots. Within 5 minutes of walking in we found two spots at the counter and within 5 minutes of sitting down we had ourfood. We both did hot dogs with mustard, slaw, and chili and I also did a bacon cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, andmayonnaise. Like other reviews have said, the cheese was not melted but that's because they basically had food prepared and wereassembling it to order. But it was still extremely good for a basic hot dog and burger. Veggies were fresh, cole slaw crisp,chili is pleasant and somewhat peppery. Bacon, burger and hot dogs all cooked as they should be. Hot dogs had a good texture butthe overall effect was a little on the bland side. Add some of their famous sauce to give it a zesty kick. Enjoyed it all andcertainly would go back and order the same again. Sitting at the counter we had the enjoyment of being able to see the wholerestaurant which was quite entertaining. The number of plates that some of the servers were able to carry was amazing. Theparticular person behind the counter helping us was a very charming classic country lady. Read more
It is under new ownership.... Service was on point. My daughter, grandfather, and I got our food within 5 minutes. Prices are... reasonable. The only thing I would even constructively criticize on would be the chili.... the chili is like 2.5 out of 5...maybe it's just me.. either way I finished my plate and it was good......*********this is an update on my review ...this wasoriginally posted not even a week ago but I want to add to it ... if u order hot dog or cheese dog all the way, make sure if ulike mustard u tell them extra bc they fix them so fast and even tho the service is great and food not bad the onions can beheavy and mustard skimp... if u order bottled sodas instead of fountain drinks the refills are not free which is kinda stupid,but just want to give my reviewers truth and clarity before making decisions.... kisses Read more
