My first experience at Rustic Roots and I am so glad I came. Talk about thick! The mozzarella sticks were beyond average and... filled to the max with cheese. A gooey pleasant surprise, indeed. I highly recommend the steak tenderloin, You'll leaveoverwhelmed with satisfaction! Also, a great place to wet your lips..Whatever rum drink the bartender made me was absolutelydelightful, to say the least. Kudos to the owner, I'll definitely come again. Read more
First time here, and it was amazing! Everything was fresh and tasty, and the shrimp and grits were as good or better as anything... you'd find down South. Farm to table options with an amazing drink menu. Even our waitress was great, and she was swamped withtables. Can't wait for round 2 here!! Read more
When walking into Rustic Roots you automatically feel the community Jesse Erickson has created. Even while busy everyone is... taken care of in a timely manor. You will find Jesse behind the bar helping out by making drinks beside the other bar tendersand check in on the regulars and greeting any first timers like myself. When you are seated, either at a table or the bar youhave your servers full attention. Drinks come quick even if you order some of the fun cocktails listed, with alcohol from thelocal distillery or a simple water. I ordered Alfredo Flatbread adding Chicken and a simple vodka with cranberry juice. TheFlatbread was a perfect thickness to support the creamy homemade alfredo sauce with perfectly cooked chicken bites and sundriedtomatoes to heighten the flavor. I was hypnotized by the heavenly smell that I couldn't wait and burnt the roof of my mouth lol.I wouldn't expect anything less from this experience with the creative and experienced chefs in the kitchen. I've been here a few times for cocktails and/or an app and have been pleased with the experiences, so I wanted to give the... (quintessential, Wisconsin-must) fish fry a try. I suspect (and hope) that tonight wasn't really indicative of a typical Fridaybecause, aside from the standout texture and taste of the breaded haddock, the rest was lackluster at best. Staff was clearlyfrazzled from the start. I waited at the "wait to be seated" sign for quite some time, then decided to just take a seat at thebar instead. The potato pancakes were burnt and rough on the exterior, and yet somehow quite raw inside. I sat without abeverage for quite some time not once just upon seating myself, but twice, and though my meal came out speedily, my French Onionsoup was entirely forgotten. I mentioned it when the food was delivered, and was told they'd "check the ticket," but it stilldid not arrive. Over halfway through my meal, I inquired with my server, and it came out a bit thereafter, so I set theremainder of my meal aside to potentially revisit after the first course (the bill revealed in notes that probably shouldn't bevisible to the guest that it must have never been rung in). Sadly, the soup was weak and lacking in flavor (though I'm anadmitted FO soup addict and critic, so I gave space for that) and I wished I'd never brought it up. Still, you'll see I gave agenerous four stars, because the rating is based on an amalgamation of my visits, and not just this one. I'm in hospitalitymyself so I "get it," and I believe this was a one-off night. Still, I share in the spirit of honest reviewing. We have eaten here several times. Typically the food has been good other than the last two times in which it has been burnt and... or hard. We had a reservation. As we sat the server told us they are short-staffed. We ordered an appetizer to hold us overwhile we waited for our dinner. The appetizer came out the same time our dinner did about an hour later. As you can see by thephoto my salmon is burnt and brown on top. The service was also terrible. The waitress was snippy and said that the salmon isjust seared on top. I told her I've had the salmon here before and it's never been hard and brown on top. We like to patronizehometown business but it's really difficult to do when the service is lousy and the food is awful. Read more
This was my second time there and I unfortunately had another horrible experience. The first time we waited a very long time for... our food and it was underwhelming. I ordered the bacon Mac and cheese while was flavorless, I would?ve rather just made someinstant Mac at home. My boyfriend ordered the braised short ribs which was okay. The ribs were good but it was a small plate andthe polenta was watery. This last time drew the line for us, we went a second time to give them another chance. We waited 15minutes before we got drinks, the bartender was slow and very inattentive. We waited over an hour for our food and once again wewere disappointed. This time I ordered the mushroom risotto (picture attached), first of all there was more mushrooms thananything else on the plate including the rice. The rice was mushy and overcooked and there was absolutely no sauce. Everyrisotto has some sort of liquid in it, yet it was absent on mine. My boyfriend ordered the tenderloin which was $13, his portionwas not worth the price. While the meet had a delicious flavor it was ruined by the potatoes and lack of food. No one came tocheck on us or ask how our food was. We ended up just wanting to pay and leave. We made it very clear we were done by puttingour forks and plates at the edge of the bar. But we had to get the other bartenders attention because she was too busy flirtingwith a customer to notice. Neither one of the bartenders asked if everything was good after clearly seeing I didn?t eat any ofit. I left hungry and very upset. Rustic Roots (along with Jesse and his amazing staff!) went above and beyond to make our wedding weekend so special! The groom... and his groomsmen loved using the space for pre-wedding food and drinks, and the atmosphere made for great getting-readypictures, especially for a drizzly day like ours! Rustic Roots also helped us host a family brunch the day after our wedding; itcould not have been a more perfect place! The food was outstanding and the atmosphere is so charming! Very different menu but everything we ordered tasted really good. Four stars only because the beer that was listed was not the... beer we got and the service was a bit slow. We will definitely be back! Read more
