This place is historic. Come for a historic experience, don’t put so much expectation on it and just have a tsingtao and a... great time. Had the ginger shrimp and it was salty and good. What a wild ride this business has been though, enjoy the ride! Read more

We had high hopes for this landmark place. Drove over from Bozeman, and while I am new to Montana, I heard a lot about this... place. So today was my birthday and I decided my dinner would be here. We arrived and had to climb 900 stairs to get into theplace, but a little workout was ok. Got seated and she brought us the soup (hot & sour). I though the soup's flavor was good, but it was lacking some ground pork. My wife thought that the flavor was ok but she is not a fan of spicy and they did not offerany other variety. Then the main courses arrived (we each chose a combo type meal). Chop suey, "large fried shrimp", shrimpfried rice, pineapple spare ribs. To be frank, it was ALL bad. My so-called chop suey with chicken, with the meat looking likesliced chicken sandwich meat...the chicken was unrecognizable. The dish had a ton of celery and crispy noodles underneath itall. The pineapple ribs? Horrible. They were actually little rib tips absolutely drowning in some kind of reddish black saucewith tiny pieces of canned pineapple sprinkled on the dark sauce. The shrimp fried rice was fried rice with the tiniest pinkshrimp sitting on top of the rice. Unacceptable. I ordered egg rolls that came in 3. Full of celery and not fried crisp. Sodisappointed. I will skip my wife's food but she was very disappointed also. The hot tea was good though! Luckily we didn'tspend a fortune. Drove 1.5 hrs for a disappointing meal. We can say we've done it though. Will not recommend visiting friends togo there. Read more

The historical element of the food and the restaurant has been washed away. When you enter the restaurant after climbing a fight... of stairs, you are greeted with cubicles like the ones you find in tech support call centers. As a Chinese-American, I canaccount for authenticity of Chinese food. Saying that the authenticity has eroded over time is generous to say the least. Wewere served msg soup with crackers like how you would find in a midwestern diner. The main course was served on a cafeteriaplate piled with celery, canned mushrooms and questionable meat. I recognize that some people like American-Chinese food, butthis is a insult to culture and the ingredients as a whole. I would even say a Panda Express is 1000% better. Overall, come forthe history, but leave your appetite for somewhere else. Read more

Literally the worst “Chinese,” food I’ve ever had. I’m Chinese. I grew up going to multiple Chinatowns. This felt like... someone had Chinese food once and tried desperately to replicate the taste. The bbq pork, is not char siu. It is literallyindistinguishable from ham. The shrimp were overcooked and not even vaguely Chinese. The food isn’t Chinese in the slightest, and is only edible by the strictest literal definition. To say that I was disappointed is an understatement. Read more

Historic restaurant set up as it has been for decades. Reminded me of the hole in the wall joynts I've eaten at in the past. Not... the most amazing food but you have to go to experience the ambiance. They were closing early for the holiday fireworks so we hadto order to go. We got an insane amount of food that wasn't just filler celery either. Read more

Excellent food. It was very busy, but they got us right in. Took a little bit to order the food, but then it came very very... fast. It was soooo good. No egg in the fried rice so I was able to eat it. It is unfortunate that it isn't handicapaccessible. You enter and go up a good flight of stairs. It doesn't quite feel like a restaurant. There are tables and chairsin individual, offset booths. It was a bit loud, but private at the same time. Considering the business is 111 years old, itis definitely a magical experience and worth the 65 mile 1 way drive. Looking forward to going back. The picture is the foodwe took home. Read more
