The front desk was very welcoming. The macaroni salad was scrumptious minus the pickle. I ordered the baked clams which were in... my opinion way too mushy. I I ordered something with an S, that stated cabbage and dumplings. I asked the waitress if this was adumpling dish and she said yes. Instead it was a plate with meat. I didn't complain because I was just too tired. It was part ofthe lunch special with included soup and dessert. I had the french onion soup which was very hearty and filling. I think theservice of the waitress could of had more gusto to its service as it was very blase.. not the greatest service with informing adish is something else when it was different (plus pretend you like your job just a little) and the baked clams could use somelove in it's recipe. The place is very quaint with an old school feel. Read more

Best steak house that I ate ever. The steak tasted like real steak and the french fries were really good.

I used to love eating at J&R, I went yesterday for my lunch and I ordered a Prime rib special and a full rack of baby back ribs... to go. Well, the portions are half of what they used to be, now they charge you for bread and they charge you for dessert whenactually the menu says it included with tea or coffee, they wanted $8 for a tiny piece of cheesecake, hell no ! The steak wasn?tgreat, it was like prior boiled and then roasted , not to mention the small size. The old full rack of ribs that I used toorder, actually is now like half rack of ribs and dry, not fall from the bone, and just bare bone with no meat. Disappointed bigtime, will not return. I ate better 2 weeks ago at the Texas Roadhouse in Selden. Read more

Sat outside on the back patio. Beautiful night and delish meal. My husband had rare prime rib and I had the bacon cheddar... cheese burger. Prime rib was cooked perfect (or really not cooked perfect since it was rare!). 2 meals, apps and 2 drinks allunder $80. Read more

We have always wanted to go to J&Rs because of the good things we heard. I love the whole set up. It?s comfy. I like that it?s... loud, I love the chairs and floors, The server was great and the only reason I gave two stars. But our food was so bland andthis is the main concept " The food" I have never had an entire meal with so much salt like the chili we had. My husband had aburger and this was raw, my fish hard and black fried bcs of the old oil. Someone needs to taste their own food. Hopefully theytake advises, definitely we are willing to give one more chance!!!! I'm pretty sure if they start cooking homemade food and putlove on it more than only $$$ this can be more productive. still we wanted to give it another chance. Read more

My family comes here at least once a year for the past few years and I can only say that the quality has significantly gone down... post pandemic. First off, there?s no more bread! We got served soggy and over cooked macaroni pasta salad - way past al dente. I ordered a cheeseburger from the lunch menu and it was okay, but not even remotely seasoned and same for all of the items weordered. The fries were subpar, not one of the worst fries I?ve ever eaten, but it?s down there. Some pieces were slightlycrunchy while others just were not. The potato wedges were not the right choice. For dessert we got the apple pie and applestrudel. The strudel was terrible - cold, the phyllo was mushy, and it left a weird aftertaste. Apple pie was great to take homeand warm up again. We were going to get the cheesecake, but they charge an extra $2 now if you order it from your lunch menuset. Overall, the quality of the food went down so significantly that my family unfortunately won?t be coming back here again. Read more
