Great place if you wanted to try dinner Chinese food. My office is right next to this place and I tried it for the first time. I... got the scallop with garlic sauce and some spring rolls. The food was amazing. The brown rice was plain and didn't have anytaste. It was empty at around 2pm. Customer service was great and it's in a great location. They have outdoor dining but it'sclosed for the season I guess. One star less is because of the person who was serving my food was coughing and sneezing and alsowas not wearing masks. I don't care if you wear masks or not but at least wear a mask if you have a flu during this covid time.I had to rush eating my food and leave the place. Hope my next visit will be better. ???????????? Read more

My group and I enjoyed dining here. We felt welcomed and were not rushed to order immediately. The hostess and staff were warm... and helpful explaining parts of the menu that were unclear to us. Do not mistake Royal East restaurant as just a Chineserestaurant. It is only partly Chinese with lots of Malaysian flair. Almost everything that my table and I ordered was deliciousand perfectly spiced. The ONLY minus was the chicken curry dish. The chicken was evenly cooked, yet somehow tasted raw. Thewell-spiced sauce did not and could not cover the raw taste of any of the chicken pieces, which seemed to have not been at allpre-seasoned but just mixed blandly into the sauce. The television playing at the front of the restaurant was a bit distractingand almost took away from the ambiance, but the others at my table totally disregarded it and paid no mind. So, I guess it wasjust another "me" issue. I'll definitely come back and dine at Royal East for the courteous service, cleanliness, cocktails anddelicious food. I'll just skip the chicken menu. Royal East Restaurant in Cambridge serves Malaysian cuisine with some Cantonese mainstays that were part of the original menu... from years back. Back in spring 2022, a large group of 22 people dined at Royal East for $75 each which included taxes andtips. There is no surcharge for the room reserved. On the evening we had dinner, the restaurant was at 20% capacity. Thewomen's bathroom has two stalls of which one had an out-of-order sign. The grand total given to Royal East was $1,650. On themenu were the following items: • Appetizers (Roti Canai, Poh Piah, Halal Chicken Satay) • Bak Kut Teh (HerbalSoup) • Hainanese Chicken (deboned) • Dungeness Crab with Malaysian Chili Sauce • Beef Rendang • Pan Seared Whole GreySole Fish in Sambal Sauce • Udang Kelapa (Coconut Jumbo Prawns) • Malaysian Curry Tofu & Vegetables • KangkungBelacan • Char Kueh Teow • Buh Buh Cha Cha (Dessert) The food was delicious. My issue is the quantity of the food providedto the group of 22, based on the $1,650 given to the restaurant. I have the menu prices and estimate quantities of the food. In many cases, the quantities I noted are a generous estimate on my part: 4 Roti Canai 4 x $7 = $28 4 Poh Pian 4x $8 = $32 4 Halal Chicken Satay 4 x $8 = $32 4 Bak Kut Teh 4 x $8 = $32 4 Halves of Hainanese Chicken 4 x $18 = $72 2Dungeness Crab with Malaysian Chili Sauce 2 x $30 = $60 (high estimate) 4 Beef Rendang 4 x $21 = $84 2 Pan Seared Whole GreySole Fish in Sambal Sauce 2 x $21 = $42 2 Udang Kelapa (coconut shrimp) = 2 x $23 = $46 4 Malaysian Curry Tofu & Vegetables 4 x$15 = $60 4 Kangkung Belacan 4 x $15 = $60 4 Char Kueh Teow 4 x 10 = $40 22 Buh Buh Cha Cha (Dessert)-- 22 x $3 = $66 (highestimate) Retail amount of food provided: $654 This means the restaurant collected approximately $1,000 for taxes andtips. If you are in a large group, rather than planning a menu with the restaurant, I would recommend making a reservation andthen order from the menu Read more

Seems to be the only restaurant around that opens on Christmas. The owner was hospitable and friendly. Both Yangzhou Fried Rice... and Beef Chow Fun were authentic Chinese taste. The servings here were inexpensive but substantial. I’d definitely recommendthis place! Read more

Really superb blend of Chinese and Malaysian dishes on offer. Enjoyed the Singapore-style laksa and along with a... generously-portioned boneless spare ribs. Prices were very reasonable given both the size and quality. Next time we're inCambridge we'll be back! Read more

The food was ok. I ordered the Malaysian curry it was not great but it wasn't terrible. My husband had the PadThai and it was... tasty. The pan fried raviolis are more like dumplings. The waiter was really nice but the atmosphere in the restaurant was oddand quiet. Read more

If there's anything you should probably want to order, this is it. What is it exactly? Battered deep fried Salt & Pepper Pork... Chop slices. Crispy on outside, succulent and moist on the inside. A perfect balance of well seasoned crunchy goodness. Also ifthis is your first time visiting a Malaysian or Singaporean restaurant, you'll want to try the Popiah (Pe?h-?e-j?: p?h-piá?) aFujianese/Chaoshan-style fresh spring roll common in South East Asia. This one in particular originates from Singapore while notas elaborate as one that's homemade, it's pretty good. We also ordered the spicy Singapore noodles (that's actually not fromSingapore) and some spicy Sichuan Green Beans and a lackluster Mapo Tofu (I'd given this a pass). All in all a really greatplace to eat at, order out or cater from. By far, one of the better Asian restaurants in Cambridge. Read more

I have a group of foodie colleagues and today we were in Cambridge for work, so we decided to go out for lunch. We went to Royal... East restaurant; they serve both Chinese & Malaysian food. One of my colleague is from Malaysia, and recommended the authenticMalaysian dishes. For appetizer, we had Roti Canai, Satay Chicken & Poh Piah. The satay chicken was too good, specially thesauce that came with it was very different than the normal peanut sauce that you get in any other restaurant. I loved the roticanai as well; the roti was fresh & flaky (which is good) & the chicken curry that was served with it was just awesome! Forentree, we ordered Kurma Lamb, Hainanese Chicken, Beef Rendang, Pineapple Shrimp, Chicken Rice and Coconut Rice. The kurma lambwas spicy, flavorful but not hot and the beef rendang was hot & spicy. I did not like the Hainanese chicken much, as it is asteamed chicken dish, so I found the smell of chicken in it very strong. The rice dishes were very tasty too. All in all foodwas very good, every bite bursting with flavors and absolutely tasty. Being in Cambridge area it was obviously very busy, butthe host was very courteous. I will definitely visit Royal East again and recommend you to try this place as well. Read more
