Had the pleasure to trying Puerto Rican food for lunch yesterday. Was an odd experience. The server was very standoffish with me... and somewhat rude. I couldn?t figure out why. It was as if she thought I was someone else. Not 1 smile. Threw my credit card onthe table, and actually stood in front of me while I signed for the bill and tip (lol who does that). It was odd, my wife and Ilaughed about how rude she was to me for no reason. On to the food! Empanadas we?re fresh and very delicious. Had a beefempanada and a shrimp empanada for an appetizer. Fresh out the fryer and were delicious. For the main course I had my first tryat mofongo. I ordered a fried pork entree while my wife had a cut thin steak one. Her steak didn?t look as appealing, it almostlooked boiled. My fried pork was delicious though. Fresh and had very rich. I dipped mine in the spicy mayo that came with aside salad. The mofongo wasn?t bad or great. I?m sure it?s a family dish that everyone?s relative makes the best. Ours kept theresemblance of the Tupperware it was stored before being warmed up. The taste wasn?t terrible, just a little bland. The textureis fun I must say. Overall I could only give 3/5 stars The server I noticed was super friendly with other patrons EXCEPT me lol.I couldn?t figure out why. The food I would give a 3.5/5 as the fried portions were great, the appearance of the mofongo andtaste desired more. The steak looked like it needs to sit on a griddle and not a microwave or boiled. The meal was about $50 for2 people as we had 2 empanadas, 2 entrees and I had a couple Puerto Rican beers. Would love to give this place a try again ifthose areas could be worked on. Read more

We were very much in the mood for mofongo and Kafe del Puerto came up as a good option for us. We arrived at 4pm on a Sunday and... just beat a rush - indicating just how popular this place is. We were limited by our stomachs, but could have ordered so muchmore! We split a papa rellena and beef empanada as an appetizer (with some pink mayo on the side). They were delicious! Forentrees we ordered the fried pork meat with mofongo (a la carte #1) and the shrimp with mofongo (a la carte #2). Excellent! Theservice was friendly and fast.
