El Paisano is our favorite Mexican restaurant in Carbondale. I always get the dinner special that includes a tamal, enchilada,... burrito, taco, chile relleno (they actually do these right, unlike some places I've visited as of late) tostada, AND rice andbeans for $11.99. You can't beat that value! It's also great to go to the little grocery store attached to the restaurant. Theycarry great snacks and necessities if you want to prepare Mexican cuisine at home. Went from being the best Mexican place to a place I never want to go to again. Sure the new location is spacious and nice but... man did the food quality go out the window. Seems like they're skimping and adjusting recipes to make more money. Not to mentionthe unfriendly staff and they didn't even leave the safety glove on my faitja tray so my hand bumped it and I got burned, notjust a little burn either, it's been hurting for days. So today I decided to give it a try at these place. We ordered our food it took awhile to get. When we got the food with my... plate I received flour tortillas witch I'm not a fan so I ask my waitress to change for corn . To begin she n ver asked. But shegave me a angry face look and I asked her. Then to make matters worse my daughter had asked for a cheese quesadilla and she gotchicken. She doesn't eat chicken. And when I told the waitress about the error she started arguing with me. She said that shehad written down chicken and that was what it was. I told her I had said cheese and she continued to arguing. There was noapologies. The service was terrible and the food presentation speaks by itself. I immediately left and had to pay for my platewitch I didn't finish because I got mad. The waitress didn't want to give me her name but the receipt said Maribel. I ordered paisano especial... it... was okay... chorizo didn't taste like chorizo at all... but everything else was good... the biggest reason I'll not comeback.... they BLAST Christian music. Fantastic food. Excellent interior with tons of space and seating. Food is on higher price range for Mexican in this area. But... very high quality and delicious. I almost bought the special plate which has everything for 11$ but than I noticed they had caldo de 7 Mares (soup of the 7 seas)... which most Mexican restaurants don't have. They also have a great frothy horchata (rice pudding drink). Even with thereservation of 20 next to us the service was good.
