The first time I was there food and drinks were excellent. I was there last night and the service was outstanding, but the food... and drinks were not. The drinks were extremely sweet, plantain chips were burned and bitter . The rice and beans tasted old,like it was going bad. The name is deceptive. I thought this was a coffee shop for the teens hanging out at the local movie theater. But it turns out,... The Hangout Cafe is actually a great little restaurant, serving up meals my whole family loved in a semi-upscale-feeling buttotally unpretentious setting. I have eaten here 4, 5, 6 times...each time it gets worse. Today I had the snapper with garlic sauce. The sauce was VERY salty,... extremely salty & is that vinegar I detect...?? Barely can taste the garlic. I asked for FRESH chopped garlic so I could put onthe fish. Paula brings out more sauce. I told her, I asked for FRESH chopped garlic NOT the stuff from the jar, either. Shebrings me out chopped garlic from the jar. SMFH. NOW...the fish; I had to "saw" through the fish with a knife...!!! Why was thisfish so tough...?? But once I could break it up a bit it was tasty; mixed it with the rice. Usually a fork is enough to cutfish, ya think..??? Sweet plantains were good. Had the Hangout Salad; where's the avocado & cherry tomatoes...?? 2 cherrytomatoes...!!! 2-3 "shaved" pieces of avocado...!!! Ya gotta be freakin' kiddin' me...!!! $15.00 The time before today, I hadthe shrimp with garlic sauce. Yes, the garlic sauce was lousy as well. BUT the shrimp were good. Had the Carmel Salad; it wasgood. AND the time before that; had the salmon. It was a bit over cooked but could deal with it. John is personable & a pleasureto speak with. I said something to Paula today & she replied, "WHAAAT..?" I said, "Who you saying what to...!!!" Totally takenback by her "what". I wrote on the signed credit card bill.
