This is top 5 for sure but at this level, anyone of my top 5 could easily be number 1. Outstanding top to bottom. We had... reservations for 6 of us and were seated right way. We were entertained by Freddy who took good care of the group. Openedwith chicken livers, served with grilled onions and bacon; they were mild, tender, and perfectly done. I ordered the LowCounty Bouillabaisse, and it was quite the dish. Fresh, locally sourced mussels ,fish and scallops along with sausage, okra, corn and barley. The spicy porridge left you reaching for more bread to finish the bowl. I couldn't have been more pleased. My wife ordered blacked catfish that had a spicy coating with beautifully charred edges. Others at the table ordered friedchicken and salmon. Everyone throughly enjoyed their dinners so much I couldn't convince them to save me a bite. This is oneof those restaurants you take friends from out of town to because it will you look smart. Can't wait to return. Read more

We were looking for a restaurant where we could enjoy Southern comfort food in a relaxed environment. We definitely found both... at Magnolia's. I had the fried green tomatoes off the starter menu and added a blackened catfish. It tasted so close to heavenlythat I'm pretty sure I was at least at the Pearly Gates. To add to the amazing experience was our server named Freddy. This guyhas found his calling. He has a good balance between friendly, entertaining and making sure we have time to enjoy our food. Iwould recommend anyone to eat here (ask for Freddy) and we will be eating here again next time we're in Charleston. Read more

Had a 1:45pm reservation and enjoyed our meal from start to finish. Hostess was very polite and sweet. Our waiter (cannot... remember his name) was nice as well and informative of the menu. I loved the green fried tomatoes and shellfish with grits somuch that I kept thinking about it after leaving the restaurant. Highly recommend those choices and this restaurant. Magnolia’s is a great dinner choice in the city of Charleston. Beautiful restaurant to dine and delicious food for the most... part. The dirty martini with blue cheese olives was one of the best i’ve had. Great apps and salads to start off. We werepretty disappointed with our entrees. We ordered the halibut and grouper, the presentation was wonderful but both were lackingseasoning on the fish itself. Our server, Kayla I believe, was phenomenal and very professional. Would still recommend to othersas we did truly enjoy our time. Read more

The great food hits keep coming on our tour of the south...as vegetarians, we always want to eat in a place that gives a true... experience of the region we're eating in, without feeling like second-class citizens. We had that experience at Magnolias...arestaurant serving up classic southern dishes, in a fine-dining atmosphere. Honestly not the first place anyone would think ofwhen it comes to getting a vegetarian meal, but, check out their menu, "The Magnolia Classic Vegetarian" is the very first itemthey list. We felt right welcome. We didn't have a reservation which is an issue at this popular French District restaurant butseating at the bar is first-come-first-serve, and they do offer full service there, so if you're okay with not having a nicetable cloth and your table being a little smaller (if you're not at the bar-counter) then you're in good shape. We found a 2-topin the bar area immediately and it overlooked the main dining area so we felt like we were part of the whole thing. Okay, fulldisclosure, my wife does not always eat vegetarian so she wanted to have an authentic "best of" shrimp and grits experience intown, which is what led us here. She liked what she got and I was thrilled with the "Magnolias Classic Vegetarian" – A veryfilled plate with fried green tomatoes, corn asparagus, mashed potatoes, melted pimento cheese (not too melted), and greenbeans...so so many southern flavors on my plate really gave me an authentic sampling of a southern palette. We especially lovedour server, the bartender Carrie. She was super friendly, knowledgeable about the food, and took very good care of us. Based onher recommendation we came back a second time, later, on a different night to have the Pecan Pie. This fabulous creation on aplate, topped with ice cream, was undoubtedly the best slice of pecan pie we'd ever had. If you want a perfect fine-dining,authentically southern meal, with a fantastic vegetarian dish, Magnolias is the place for you. Don't Read more
