I was very pleased by some elements of 1799 and a bit dissatisfied with others. When we walked into the dining room to be... seated, it was completely silent despite there being other people there, which was quite awkward especially when trying to havea conversation. It felt more like you were eating in your own dining room with strangers than in a restaurant, so some musicwould've helped the atmosphere. The food was high-quality, but the portion sizes were almost a joke. The hummus platter wasessentially a tiny mason jar of hummus, some radishes, and a few triangles of pita that looked like they belonged in a child'slunchbox--not worth $18 in my opinion. While delicious, the beef bourguignon was also served in a tiny--and I mean tiny--slowcooker. The waitress did give a heads-up that it didn't come with any sides, but she didn't mention the portion at all. The restaurant took a reservation for my wife and I for her 60th birthday several weeks in advance, but then cancelled it at the... last minute because they had a buy out. In short, they got a better offer and left us hanging for a special occasion - offeringus nothing but an opportunity to come back at their convenience with no special consideration. Maybe business is business, butif this is their level of professional integrity and courtesy to customers, I think you'd be better dining elsewhere. Read more

Beautiful peaceful spot with pretty cottage landscape view and well spaced covered outdoor patio seating available. Service was... kind and attentive. Food was elegant and delicious, worth the prices imo. Reminded me of Michelin star dishes I had in Paris.Well balanced cocktails too. Perfect dinner. Read more
What to say about this place, great experience for dining solo, group, date and other engagement. You will be greeted and will... be escorted to your table, efficient service and food heavenly made with care and serve warm off oven and with explanation ofthe dish. What an amazing night we had celebrating my God-daughter's engagement! Eric shared the history of the Inn, as we enjoyed the... delicious menu and the beautiful room, imagining the stories of the past that have traveled through the inn. The food andservice was beyond my expectations. I've traveled a lot and didn't expect much from this local hide away. I was dead wrong. TheClifton has a Michelin Star and Eric McNeese brings the extra element with customer interaction. I had the Rock Fish, my friendhad the NY strip, I had the butternut squash soup as an appetizer, and the French cake with poached pears as desert. Everything about this experience was phenomenal. Our server and bartender Chris was knowledgeable and attentive, the food was... spectacular, the drinks and wine were perfect, the ambiance of the place is so relaxing and old fashioned yet perfectlymodernized, you can tell a lot of thought went into making it a really pleasant experience, and the price was lower than Iexpected.
