Seven of us were celebrating a birthday on Sat. night. Service was slow, even tho our waiter was pleasant. However, it took him... 45 min to get a martini to me-even tho I asked at least 4 times & was going to bar to get it myself. Everyone was done withtheir wine & in middle of salads when he presented what was to be a dirty martini with a regular one. That was just thebeginning.... Salads were all wrong- chopped instead of Caesars, etc. & the chopped salad was boring. Steaks were all preparedwrong & I ordered 18 oz med. rare Delmonico, thinking I'd have take-home, being it was just $3 more than the mini-filet. It wasmedium well & tasteless. I gave it to my friend for her dog. I didn't want to send it back after all our previous problems.Friends' salmon was great, tho. The manager apologized & took my drink off bill plus sent another new dirty martini. Guess Ishould have told her about steak. $48 is a lot of money for nothing. I've always been told to wait a while before trying a newrestaurant so they can get the kinks out. This one has too many kinks!!! Read more

Beautiful building, underwhelming menu. My wife and I went to enjoy a late lunch today - the Menu was very simple and offered... NO STEAK LOL ???????. Steak House with no steak ….We rolled with it and ordered a “Steak House Burger “. The burgers arejust frozen Paddies - my wife’s came out completely raw, mine pretty perfectly medium. I didn’t want to make a big deal, anddidn’t want to wait awkwardly for it to be recooked so we just told the waiter to bring the check - A women who seemed like amanager or head waitress came out to apologize for the food….By apologize, I mean she insisted that the burger they broughtout WAS in fact medium, and it was measured for temperature…She recommended my wife order well done next time. Well of coursewe won’t have a “next time” with The Publick House ????. Looking forward to trying whatever restaurant occupies thisunique space next. Read more
New steak place in Chester at Public House We tried this restaurant which just reopened since we have been going to this... restaurant for many years. The place looks very nice but the menu for Chester will not work. Instead of having pub type foodespecially in the bar area the owner’s think they can place a high priced steak restaurant in Chester. I hope they get honestfeedback on their menu , stand back and rethink their strategy. If I want to have very good high priced steak I will go to muchbetter steak restaurants. Only reason I gave 1star is because there is no option for a zero. After walking around the quaint shops of Main Street we... decided to come here for lunch. Big mistake! First, drinks were underpoured. Then our appetizer came out wrong. Due to foodallergies, we asked that the dipping sauce come on a seperate plate. It did not, making this plate useless. Then the maindishes came out. Two of us ordered steak sandwiches, the meat was so undercooked it was still cold. Waitress agreed and took itback to the kitchen where they simply added a new slice of cheese to the top and melted that. When seperated from the bread thesteak was just as red as before. We received an apology and not much else. No chef of manager visited the table and we werecharged for the full meal even though we didn't eat. Never again! Read more
We were excited to try this new restaurant for the first time tonight. We had a 7:30 pm reservation and we were seated by... 7:26-off to a good start. We then proceeded to sit for 20 minutes without any service. Two servers were tending to the other 4tables In our area. While we were there for that brief time, we heard one table complain about their lobster and asked that itbe removed from their bill while the other table was complaining about poorly made martinis. After 21 minutes, without so muchas water or bread, we decided to walk out. The manager was nowhere to be found and the young ladies at the front, said theservers were confused as to who was responsible for our table. I find this absolutely unacceptable and we will definitely notbe returning. I had a reservation for the 29th for a birthday celebration which I immediately canceled! As a tourist from Ontario, this restaurant was one of the nicest I have ever been in. We started with cocktails in bar, then on... to one of the one of the smaller dining rooms. Service very good, staff friendly and steak done to perfection. Congratulationsto new owners Steve and Andrea. Read more
I was glad to see someone took over the publick house instead of letting another historical building in chester rot like... Larisons. Its nice to have a fine dining place in town to bring family that's visiting or old friends I haven't seen to catch upwith..Chester has bars and more casual places, its nice to have a fancy place too! So thank you new owners! As with any newrestaurant there's gonna be lots of kinks to work out before it runs like a well oiled machine. Expecting perfection out of anynew restaurant is unreasonable so I won't be as critical as some of the reviewers When I walked in, I was captivated by thedecor elegance and history of the building. We were warmly greeted by the hostess and she brought us right to our table. Verypleasant. We ordered cocktails and they were fully poured and delicious! Seemed like the bar area was full and lively! Ourappetizers arrived promptly and were very tasty. I especially enjoyed the French onion soup! Our server was very pleasant andaccomadated us thoroughly! It was apparent that the staff were really trying and doing their best to make everyone happy! Ourentrees came after our appetizers and they were wonderful! I got the filet with chimichurri sauce, a side of Brussels sprouts,and a side of the Mac and cheese...it was all so good!! I like that you order your sides ala carte! U create your own mealinstead of a protein , mashed potatoes, and vegetables that are usually standard accompaniments at every restaurant! I like thatI could choose a sauce too! Very nice! Overall we had a wonderful time with great service great food in a wonderful atmosphere!If you are penny pinching this isn't your place...if you are looking to treat yourself , definitely don't pass this place by!!
